WICHITA, Kan. Kansas is recalling hundreds of vehicle license plates on the streets containing the JAP lettering in the wake of complaints that it is an ethnic slur offensive to Japanese Americans.
The Kansas Department of Revenue said there are 731 active registrations containing that random letter combination on standard license plates. Vehicle owners were sent a letter dated Tuesday asking them to return the plate to their county vehicle office within 30 days for replacement at no cost. Plates not replaced within that period will be identified in the states system and will be replaced at their annual renewal.

In the DC area here, there are a fair number of vehicles with 'Diplomatic' License Plates. They use a three letter designation (Usually starting with a 'D') and then some numbers.
Funniest plates I see start with DUH

They had better not replace JAP with NIP or they may have to have another recall.
To: 11th_VA
I wonder if there were licence plates starting with other offensive 3 let words.

I had a Jewish friend in college who had a t-shirt that said, “Hi! I’m a Jewish-American Princess! Please buy me a Tab!”

There is a large company here in Minneapolis that has been around for many years.
JAPS-Olson I am truly surprised it hasn’t been protested.

Japan has NOTHING to be proud of. After all their out-of-wedlock birthrate DOUBLED over the 20 years, far exceeding the increase of any other country. Oh yea, by the way, it’s now two percent.

I wish these state bureaucrats would grow a pair.
This is insane. Any "minority" group can force people to do things, at considerable expense, just by yelling "we are offended!".
The only ones who cannot do this are straight, white, Christian, men.

There are more license plates that say JAP than there are japs in Kansas. Both kinds.
I hope there are none that say WOP.

I’d be offended by plates with the letter combination “DNC” on them.

We live in a time of weak-sister snowflakes. Indeed.
Surprised "Yank" has survived as long as it has. Of course, it is always correct PC to demean Americans.
OTOH, one can go almost anywhere in the world and find people proudly wearing tee shirts and caps bearing American references.
