The second problem is that while some offenders are ineligible for these new “time credits” based on an exclusion list, many serious violent crimes are missing from that list. Since proponents tend to misstate or misunderstand their own bill, here are some of the specific federal laws that are missing from the bill’s exclusion-from-early-release list:
Drug-related robberies involving assault with a dangerous weapon (18 U.S.C. § 2118(c)(1)) Using a deadly weapon to assault a law-enforcement officer (18 U.S.C. § 111(b)) Assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a spouse or child (18 U.S.C. § 113(a)(7)) Violent carjacking resulting in serious bodily injury (18 U.S.C. § 2119(2)) Trafficking heroin and fentanyl, if not also convicted of certain other charges. More than 90 percent of traffickers will be eligible for the time credits. (18 U.S.C. § 841(b))
These are not low-level, non-violent crimes, nor are they obscure crimes. There are dozens of other serious violent crimes, including sex-related offenses, that are missing from the bill’s exclusion list. Frankly, there are almost no low-level, non-violent offenders in federal prison, as opposed to state prison, to begin with. And to the extent people are in federal prison for low-level convictions, they typically pled down from more serious charges. Most important, when there are manifest injustices in individual cases, the proper course of justice is not to simply let out thousands of serious felons but to appeal to the president for clemencies and pardons. As Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist 74, the president is far better situated than a legislature to address such cases.
Proponents claim that we have nothing to fear because only offenders classified as having a “low-level” of recidivism risk can get early release. But this requires extraordinary faith in the government’s ability to predict the recidivism risk of violent felons.

Now for my analysis:
1) I don’t remember Tom Cotton taking cheap shots at Trump - nothing like Flake. Perhaps he does on occasion, but I find a lot more out there along these lines:

Given that, I don’t think Cotton takes going up against one of Trump’s priorities lightly, for sport. He’s given this a LOT OF THOUGHT. Same for Ann Coulter.
2) We went through a round of ‘criminal justice reform’ 50 years ago, and that gave us the BIGGEST ROUND OF CRIME ever seen in this country - at least twice the level of violent crime we have today. In Houston, they had TV show about the crime level called “City Under Siege”. Perhaps others want to go back to those days - I don’t.
3) I simply do not give a crap regarding how many people we have locked up - if they’re VIOLENT, they need to be locked up as long as possible. Countries with catch-and-release, like most of Central America are NOT my idea of role models to be following in this area.
4) Trump does sometimes get blinded by his kids. He did it when he bombed the Syrians after Ivanka saw a (staged) photograph of the ISIS False Flag. He also came damn close to selling us out over DACA - read some of the stuff here. He started with a good deal, and then kept making concessions, until it was total crap. Thankfully Schumer bailed him out by rejecting everything - just to prevent the Wall.
5) Speaking of Schumer - if he’s for something, along with virtually the ENTIRE DEMOCRAT PARTY, it will take a lot to sell me on it. And the only Democrats complaining, the Black Caucus, say it doesn’t go far enough to empty the jails.
6) Regarding Trump, again: He may be making a play for black votes. I don’t believe that taking steps that will likely cause the violent crime rate to soar is worth it for those votes. I prefer to keep the country safe.
7) Then why does Trump support this? It’s possible that he simply holds the liberal view of people, which is that all people are good, but some make mistakes and just need a bit of redirection. Sorry, but again, we tried that approach in the 1960s - once in my lifetime is enough.

You are right, we must not read the bill, we must ignore all black conservatives and trust our gut that they must all remain locked up...we must not research 3 Strikes Clinton legislation...yeah, the Cotton piece proves you are right.
It’s a fair point regarding Manafort and the Bundy’s, but I really doubt any bill supported by Schumer and virtually all of the Democrat Party will do anything to stop this crap.

There is a myth that people who smoke weed get sent to federal prison for no other reason.
This is the reason why this proposed law excludes all these violent crimes from the list of crimes that would exclude a prisoner from getting the early release.
Armed carjackers who caused serious bodily injury? Those are the people who would be let put early because it was related to drug offenses....
If people want drugs to be legal than change the laws. Do not pretend that the violence surrounding drugs is harmless.
