Thanks to 9YearLurker for pointing out this article at NRO. Truth in labeling would have this bill called the Serious Felon Get Out Of Jail Free Act.

Of all people it was Nigel Farage who pointed out on his radio show last year that the USA is five percent of the world’s population and 20 percent of the world’s prisoners.

Federal prosecutors can tack charge after charge on people like Paul Manafort to intimidate them into lying to get a lighter sentence.

Federal prosecutors are out of control. Ask the Bundy Family and their supporters in the Bunkerville and Oregon Standoff cases.

I saw those cases first hand. Tacked on phony baloney plastic banana charges.

Fed prosecutors have a 98 percent conviction rate in this outrageous rigged system.

Totally disagree.
Cotton is an antiTrumper, globalist.
He is one which Rush is concerned about in January who may team with Pelosi, et al and go after PDJT.
There is no perfect bill. Most of those affected would be 3 Strikes you are out from Clinton like that woman PDJT pardoned (note Obama didn’t pardon anyone like this.)
Those against the bill want to divide and conquer...pit us against blacks again and “told you so”
Candace Owens is for it, so is Alveta King, ...so is the group of black pastors who keep praying and meeting with PDJT. Clinton is the cause of most of this and passing it makes him look bad...notice the MSM has pretended for the most part this bill doesn’t exist? Notice also CXW(Core Corrections) lobbies against the bill as it affects their bottom line...stock goes up the more bodies are incarcerated...evil...gee, could lobbyists make congressional leaders want the bill shot down???
Yeah, we just need to always say black people are simply more violent and need to be in prison longer. Throw away the key, no one should ever get a job...once time served, it is easy to get a job...

Hmm..so if we as part of jail time we actually make part of the parole system the officer helps the soon to be released person learn how to get ready for work, there is less chance of them being a repeat offender or lifetime tax money sucking vacuum baby making welfare recipient???

No, let’s still elevate PDJT hating Tom Cotton and believe him over all these others ...

The bill is much better than not having the bill.

Time to stop the division and believing the lies.

Now for my analysis:

1) I don’t remember Tom Cotton taking cheap shots at Trump - nothing like Flake. Perhaps he does on occasion, but I find a lot more out there along these lines:

https://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/05/tom-cotton-donald-trump-238015

Given that, I don’t think Cotton takes going up against one of Trump’s priorities lightly, for sport. He’s given this a LOT OF THOUGHT. Same for Ann Coulter.

2) We went through a round of ‘criminal justice reform’ 50 years ago, and that gave us the BIGGEST ROUND OF CRIME ever seen in this country - at least twice the level of violent crime we have today. In Houston, they had TV show about the crime level called “City Under Siege”. Perhaps others want to go back to those days - I don’t.

3) I simply do not give a crap regarding how many people we have locked up - if they’re VIOLENT, they need to be locked up as long as possible. Countries with catch-and-release, like most of Central America are NOT my idea of role models to be following in this area.

4) Trump does sometimes get blinded by his kids. He did it when he bombed the Syrians after Ivanka saw a (staged) photograph of the ISIS False Flag. He also came damn close to selling us out over DACA - read some of the stuff here. He started with a good deal, and then kept making concessions, until it was total crap. Thankfully Schumer bailed him out by rejecting everything - just to prevent the Wall.

5) Speaking of Schumer - if he’s for something, along with virtually the ENTIRE DEMOCRAT PARTY, it will take a lot to sell me on it. And the only Democrats complaining, the Black Caucus, say it doesn’t go far enough to empty the jails.

6) Regarding Trump, again: He may be making a play for black votes. I don’t believe that taking steps that will likely cause the violent crime rate to soar is worth it for those votes. I prefer to keep the country safe.

7) Then why does Trump support this? It’s possible that he simply holds the liberal view of people, which is that all people are good, but some make mistakes and just need a bit of redirection. Sorry, but again, we tried that approach in the 1960s - once in my lifetime is enough.

Those here who have not read the bill nor my post below, I encourage you to do so . Stop relying on those who have a vested interest in it not passing.

What do they gain if it doesn’t?

Hint: it isn’t safety from black people coming violence against their families.

There is a myth that people who smoke weed get sent to federal prison for no other reason.

This is the reason why this proposed law excludes all these violent crimes from the list of crimes that would exclude a prisoner from getting the early release.

Armed carjackers who caused serious bodily injury? Those are the people who would be let put early because it was related to drug offenses....

If people want drugs to be legal than change the laws. Do not pretend that the violence surrounding drugs is harmless.
