There is no logical argument in favor of them.

I am all in favor of returning to manual transmissions.

That would weed out a lot of drivers with no coordination, reflexes, or ability to chew gum and drive at the same time.

Standard transmissions are probably one of the most effective anti-theft devices you can get on a car these days.
