A Miami-based political committee has proposed a constitutional amendment that would ban possession of assault weapons in Florida if approved by voters.
The proposal, backed by the committee Ban Assault Weapons Now, was posted on the state Division of Elections website this month. The committee had raised nearly $410,000 since March, while spending almost $284,000, according to finance information. The expenditures included $75,000 last month to a California-based company for what was described in the finance information as petitions.

We will fight it.
assault weapons
Anything over a single shot rifle or revolver.
The voters passed all 12 this year and most were terrible. This is
Not good and the statehouse needs to get a handle on this method of bypassing the legislature. This same process is what killed California.
These initiatives make me nervous. I’m not confident they won’t pass. Plenty of soccer moms out there would cheerfully vote for an assault weapons ban.
My ‘rifle’ self-declares as a “Peace Weapon”, or maybe a “Sanctuary Weapon”.
Note, there already is a Peacemaker!
"Any constitutional amendment banning or outlawing any type of firearm is hereby null and void."
This is absolutely a serious threat. Voters in Florida are ripe for this kind of flimflammery.
In a sane system, we could count on the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down such a measure as a violation of the Bill of Rights. Maybe, just maybe, it can be used to help turn out the vote for President Trump in 2020.
Even if the initiative loses it could still pass with the way they count, count and count ballots there.
I've encountered too many women who are terrified even at the mention of the word "gun" much less "assault weapon".
Just about every cacabobo idea can be put on the Florida ballot as a Constitutional Amendment. Sometimes they will slip two of them under one heading and neither related to the other, e.g., death benefits for soldiers paired with board requirements for raising tuition at colleges. Huh?
Either way works. :)
There are few things lower and more scummy than a gun grabber. Leeches and e-coli maybe. Okay; just e-coli.

Why don’t we propose our own ballot initiative?
“Any constitutional amendment banning or outlawing any type of firearm is hereby null and void.”
Marbury v. Madison: Any law repugnant to the Constitution is null and void.
Why not just use that?
If SCOTUS gives teeth to Heller and McDonald, that’s all we would need. With Roberts, I’m not convinced we actually have a 5-4 majority.
As it stands now the 2nd Amendment is a privilege not a RIGHT.
The fastest way to restore this RIGHT to to REPEAL
The Gun Control Act of 1968.
