What has happened to NASCAR? Is it the PC/diversity craze? I see they are recruiting college athletes so they can have affirmative action pit crews now.
Are you honestly suggesting that NASCAR ratings are down because there are a few black guys changing tires? I don’t throw this term around, but if thats the reason you aren’t watching NASCAR, then you ARE a racist.
NASCAR is dying, quite simply, because the drivers are no longer compelling. They’re boring, homogenized, all talk the same, and frankly I can’t tell one from the other. NASCAR was exciting when you had real characters who would get in fist fights after races. Now its all about keep the sponsors happy, and they’re slowly killing the sport.
NASCAR went into the toilet when they started changing the rules.
The first was: you cannot pit on the first lap of a caution if you are not on the lead lap.
From that point forward, if you went a lap down, you were done and might as well save your equipment, go back to the garage and get a head start on the next event.
I tuned out shortly after and haven’t been back to a NASCAR event in 25 years and have not watched on TV in at least that long.
NFL...former Buffalo Bills fan. Couldn’t get it done, and it’s been 20 years since they made the playoffs.
The retirement of most of the long-supported drivers that would compete every week for a win (Jeff Gordon, Rusty Wallace, Bill Elliott, Terry Labonte, Dale Jarrett, Dale Earnhardt (death), Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Bobby LaBonte, Jeff Burton etc.) and the loss of likable drivers even though they rarely won like Jimmy Spencer, Kyle Petty, Ward Burton, and yes, Dick Trickle!
Now, 2/3 of the field has no chance to win a race. Those same 2/3 are unknowns that will never compete for a title and therefore, the vast majority of "fans" will never latch onto them. Out of the other third, only a few have a chance for a title, and most have the personality of a corporate janitor.
