NATO calls emergency meeting following Russia-Ukraine naval skirmish

NATO officials and diplomats are assembling for an “extraordinary meeting” on Monday with Ukrainian officials following a naval clash between Ukraine and Russia off Crimea’s coast, the military alliance announced.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg scheduled the NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting at the request of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, reports noted.

Stoltenberg made contact with the commission and scheduled the meeting after Russian naval forces fired on Ukrainian vessels attempting to enter the Kerch Strait, which is a vitally important waterway that connects Ukraine’s port city of Mariupol to the Black and Mediterranean seas.

Russia has steadily tightened its control of the region since Moscow’s forceful annexation of Crimea in 2014.

I would like for the USN to have a standing policy to fire on any foreign aircraft that comes within a few hundred feet of a US Navy vessel underway at sea.

Yes and it is BS to permit it. This is the same as a foreign ship approaching a vessel of war in a menacing manner.
