The Violence Prevention Research Program (VPRP) at UC Davis and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health conducted a study about the impact California's gun control laws have had on homicide and suicide rates over the last 10 years. And guess what? Researchers found that the Golden State's gun control laws had absolutely no impact. And, even more surprising, the study's lead researcher found that the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) is severely flawed.
"It compared observed annual firearm homicide and suicide rates in California over 10 years following enactment of comprehensive background check and misdemeanor violence prohibition policies in 1991 with expected rates based on data from 32 control states that did not have these policies and did not implement other major firearm policies during the same time," researchers explained in a press release.

In the last 3 years, I have known 3 folks that used firearms to commit suicide. Two of them close. I knew two others over the past 10 years and also a negligent discharge death of a close friends son. I still place NO responsibility on the firearm. I know it's a violation of the liblogic 101 and emotion filled rage but, it ain't there.

(!) My advice is to stay away from those people.
Its a foolish idea to believe that mass killers can be identified with background checks. The checks succeed only in harassing honest people.
They have been rendered safe now.
Logic and facts will have no effect on Democrat efforts to “reform” gun restrictions. They will use this study to advocate the inclusion of medical records in the background checks and will use them to prohibit firearms purchases based on prescription medicines, mental health observations and treatment, presence in a war zone during adulthood, and completely unfounded accusations. Coming soon to a neighborhood near you.
The backround check program is so flawed it should abandoned.
” None of us want a domestic violence abuser or felon with a firearm. That’s something both sides can agree on.”
Wrong! There are a ton of people that have lost their 2nd amendment rights based on nothing more than disgruntled spouse in a divorce and no evidence of abuse at all.
Nothing like a pissed off lying ex to possibly ruin your life.
It never happened to me, but a ton of others I have known.
Yup. The day that Mrs rktman and I got married, I got a phone call early that morning from my ex’s neighbor letting me know that my two youngest were safe but their house burned down during the night. Ex was dating a firefighter at the time and oddly, some keepsake things and valuables had been moved to my ex mother in laws house a couple days before. Wedding proceeded as planned. Weird huh? That was 30+ years ago and she’s gone and me and mrs rktman are doing great.
“The checks succeed only in harassing honest people.”
But that is the real goal of the RATs now isn’t it. I don’t think that they give a fig about guns, other than it’s a campaign differentiator and way to attack the Bill of Rights, which they seek to destroy. Just look at how they’re “working” on the First Amendment? No guns, No free speech, hallmarks of the Marxist Society that the RATs want to install.
And it doesn't even have to be a spouse. Our youngest daughter got into a heated argument with her BF in his apartment, which they WERE NOT SHARING, and he called the cops. They 5150’d her and the next thing we knew she was in the County Hospital Psych Unit. The psychiatrist said that he saw nothing wrong mentally with her and she was released to us in a matter of hours. That said that 5150 prevented her from purchasing a firearm for five years! The real issue here with the RATs is to try and throw as many legal monkey wrenches into the ability of a decent, law-abiding citizen to possess a firearm of any kind. The massive numbers of firearms in private hands constitute a real threat to the RATs should they ever succeed in wresting complete control of our country from its Constitutional underpinnings. By their actions, you have to know what's really on their minds.
I vote that “ No law that restricts that 2nd amendment rights is valid, unless it ALSO restricts voting rights.”
