I have lots of customers that fish that area. Usually in nothing less than a 30 footer! In a 16’ whaler you guys had to get beat constantly!
Oh, we were!
It was a Whaler Montauk with the wooden console. We had to re-anchor it to the deck two times. But hey, we were young (late 20s, early 30s) and we were indestructable.
Besides, the Whalers of that era were “unsinkable” and after all, with the model name “Montauk”, where else could you use it?
Thank The Lord we did not have the power options (or the $$$ to afford them) that are out there today. We had a Johnson 60. lol
I had the best of both worlds back then. I had a 20’ Critchfield Malibu with a Johnson 125 that I kept in the water near the mouth of the East River. We’d take it out on the west Sound after work at night and trailer his Whaler on weekends. On spring and summer weekends we’d take my boat down through the harbor, gas up behind Sandy Hook and fish the Bight. Come back behind the Hook to cook on a Coleman camp stove and sleep in the cabin.
Bein’ young and healthyy was fun....I miss it. LOL
