Doesn’t matter that the Senate will be GOP until at least January of 2021. Lindsey Graham has already stated that fact and he may well end up being the Judiciary Committee Chairman in the next Congress.
If POTUS Trump fails to win Reelection in 2020 (shudder), the Court will end up being more Liberal than anyone could have thought possible.

Not necessarily true. The Biden rule applied to Marrick because obama could not be reelected due to term limits. Trump is up for reelection in 2020 so the Biden rule doesn’t apply. A new Justice can be considered and seated for the next 5 years assuming Trump gets a second term.

I don’t think election year is the factor in this case. The issue was a lame duck president appointing a Justice. Trump won’t be a lame duck technically until the last year of his second term. Only Congress is lame duck at this point.
