THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

SUN VALLEY SERENADE: “CHATTANOOGA CHOO-CHOO”

Tonight it’s time for a song that has achieved immortality. This is how it looked and sounded in the original movie. That’s a young, unknown Milton Berle in the opening. Tex Beneke and the Modernaires handle first vocal duties, while the young, unknown Dorothy Dandridge teams with the Nicholas Brothers for the finish. This song was #1 on the Hit Parade the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

Glenn Miller: “Chattanooga Choo-Choo”

The opening line of the song has become such a mainstay of popular culture that Mel Brooks used it in 1974.

Classic line from “Young Frankenstein”
