My heart goes out to this lady and the many other relatives who tried to convince their loved ones to leave.

The next time you are faced with danger from a natural disaster... Do the right thing and get the hell out of there.

This should be Jerry Brown’s Hurricane Katrina, but the media has his back.

I hate to see her blaming herself. It is not her fault. Was she to force her mom into the car? Or stay and die? She did the best she could do.

When in danger
or in doubt
hoist all sails
and haul ass out

Old Sailor saying - indicating getting off shore in storm conditions is a better choice - hence the term “Old Sailor” saying.

You are correct. Sadly, this isn’t the first time fire has swept the area....

12,500 houses and buildings + 5,000 other structures, likely hundreds more dead to be found.

The town is gone. What was the point of having emergency services?

Their job is to preplan for emergencies, including conflagrations that happen constantly, all over CA. Every part of CA needs to realize that your turn for complete destruction is coming.

Preplanning means looking for threats and having an evacuation plan to get everyone out, if needed.

I know of some residents that plan to return, collect their insurance, and rebuild. They say they don’t care if they are surrounded by the burnt down town with minimal stores for years.

This is horrible but then the whole town was built inside a pile of kindling wood. All it takes is one match.

It’s like people who refuse to evacuate for hurricanes. It’s their own business. Leave them be. If they croak, at least they made their own decision.
