Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith smilingly posed for a photo in 2014 while wearing a Confederate cap and holding a rifle, then put the image on her Facebook page with the words "Mississippi history at its best!"
That image, taken at a Mississippi museum, resurfaced Tuesday as AT&T, Leidos and Walmart joined two other companies, Union Pacific and Boston Scientific, in asking Hyde-Smith, a Republican, to return campaign contributions because of controversy over her recent jest about being willing to attend a public "hanging."

Take you meds dude.
The southern democrats never switched to republican. Not in the way the propagandists tell us. It’s all a lie. Just like LBJ kept his racism till the day he died.
The southern democrats have always been racists.

You are wrong? How do I know this? Because your hero God Lincoln told the world the war was not about slavery.
Hey California stuff it. Burn baby, burn.
Where does Free Republic find dumb a$$e$? Maryland = communist state.
To all non southerners posting to this thread. F off.
Stuff the PC pal.
You know what? We should hope she losses and the Democrat gets elected all because of a meaningless off hand remark. /sarc
If you had a brain you could post a comment that made sense.
The sort of deflection one makes when one cannot contest the points put forth.
Senator Robert Byrd (D-KKK) spoke the forbidden word, the mother of all racial slurs, twice on a cable news show in 2001 and was reelected in 2006.
The Rat party and the media scarcely noticed.
In fact, Lincoln said that very thing. "Just because you call a tail a leg, doesn't make it so."
The Union launched a violent war against the South to preserve slave states remaining in the Union.
That lies are embedded we can be certain. This is why the Civil War is so strangely controversial. Because lies were inserted into the history books to protect the reputation of the democrats.
Our biggest mistake is not questioning the history books. Maybe due to being intimidated by progressivist “scholars.” Maybe just apathy or laziness.
It’s time to reject what we’ve been told.
It seems the larger narrative, the level most people focus on, is where the lie sits.
Questions of how many slave states the union had, or questions about who outlawed slavery when are important. But the larger view has been the target of the left. They have deceived us.
The takeaway point is what matters most because it has the greatest impact: that the democrats were the party of slavery and the republicans were the party of abolition.
Dinesh D’Souza has done research which corrects the falsehoods.

All of slavery in this country was on the democrat side.
Northern democrats supported slavery. Southern democrats supported slavery.
Republicans were opposed to slavery.

The Amendment was named after Ohio Republican Corwin, and pushed very strongly by New York Republican Seward.
It was in fact passed by the Congress and sent to the states for ratification, and three Northern states actually did ratify it.
“Burn baby, burn.”
You have exposed a deep character flaw.
Only toilet scum would wish for people to be burned out of their homes and killed by scores.
Thank you. Odd isn’t it? How people who claim to be conservative Republicans and come to a conservative website getting all fired up defending Democrat slave holders and treasonous bastards who were responsible for the bloodiest war in American history.
You have a strong desire to protect the lie weve been fed by the progressives.
No, the republicans were not the slave owners. The republicans were opposed to slavery.
The democrats were the slave owners.
The democrat party was and still is the party of slavery.
How do General? Confound that jackanape Lincoln, eh? The scaliwag! You have yourself a fine Thanksgiving, hear?
Don’t be too hard on them General. They almost went to your side.
