there were 8,941,407 crimes in 2017.
Thus hate crimes make up 0.08% of all crime. That’s an incredibly small percentage and would seem to show how non-racist our country is, when the hate crimes essentially round to zero.

Hate crimes as defined as ones committed by white people. That was very low before the Trump era. 17% increase of a very low number is probably still very low.
