I guarantee you that person did not make up that word. But you have the right to hang with people you choose.
That’s a pretty common word. I hear LEOs use it often.

First off, ALL words are ‘made up’.
Second, just because you don’t know a word doesn’t mean that others don’t know it and use it.
Maybe you meant to say that you think the word ‘hinky’ is slang or argot, cant, dialect, jargon, jive, language, lingo, patois, patter, shop, or shoptalk.
