Democrats see a series of lawsuits in Floridas bitter recount fight between Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) and Gov. Rick Scott (R) as an opportunity to achieve a years-long goal: reshaping how ballots are evaluated and counted in the nations largest swing state in 2020 and beyond.
While most of the lawsuits are centered around the recount, some Democrats see the effort as a chance to change some of the standards governing how ballots are assessed in the Sunshine State, potentially widening the pool of countable votes.
That could carry implications for future elections by forcing local and state officials to tally votes they otherwise would invalidate under current standards an outcome they hope will improve their electoral chances in a must-win state known for its unpredictable politics.
A lot of these lawsuits might not even be primarily motivated by the Senate race. If you look across the board, it looks very unlikely that there are even enough ballots at play, said Michael Morley, an assistant professor at the Florida State University College of Law.
Even if Sen. Nelson were to run the table and win all the lawsuits, I dont think there are enough ballots here to change the outcome, he added. I think a lot of this is clearing the underbrush for the 2020 election.
To be sure, Democrats still see a win by Nelson as necessary in their bid to limit Republican gains in the Senate ahead of 2020, when the GOP is expected to face a less favorable electoral map.
Scott currently leads Nelson by only 0.15 percentage points after a machine recount, throwing the race into a manual recount that must be completed by Sunday.
But multiple Democrats privately acknowledged the three-term incumbent likely faces long odds in toppling Scott in the final recount.
The lawsuits filed by Nelson and his allies, however, could have implications beyond the 2018 contest.
Most of the litigation pursued by Democrats seeks to include tens of thousands of ballots that risk being rejected under Florida's existing standards and procedures.
So far, the lawsuits have seen limited success in court.
U.S. District Judge Mark Walker, whos overseeing most of the cases, sided in part with attorneys for Nelson and the Democratic Executive Committee of Florida on Thursday, granting some voters who had their mail-in or provisional ballots rejected because of mismatched signatures an additional two days to fix the errors.
But he stopped short of granting Democrats broader request to invalidate Floridas signature-matching requirement and order that all ballots with mismatched signatures be tallied.
The most prominent is a Democratic suit that seeks to invalidate Florida's current rules requiring an exact match of the signature in the ballot.
ETC...
Time for the GOP to push back and only allow voting on ELECTION DAY. No more mail in ballots.
Why aren’t any republicans, along with the GOP, fighting back like this in any of the close elections? We should be trying to steal elections just like they are if they refuse to play by the rules. I’m completely serious. If we aren’t going to do anything to stop fraud, we might as well start trying to steal elections away from democrats more aggressively.
Elections are how we solve our differences civilly.
Elections are now corrupt, and the results are suspect.
I wonder how we will solve differences among ourselves when elections are no longer a thing, because that is where we are going very quickly.
It’s called make the rules as you go along. More fun that way.
Florida will still have a Republican Governor and heavily Republican legislature. I hope they use their resources to clean up this mess so the Democrats are unable to steal any more elections.
They aren’t fighting back, they aren’t challenging, because they are “one” with the Dems, and serve the same global masters.
Dems + Reps = Swampsters who serve the Globals
vs.
Trump + Deplorables
(Globals are winning.)

And you find that unbelievable? How else are they supposed to win elections? 8>)
Well they actually did fight back in Florida. Perhaps it will become an inspiration to Republicans in other states, but the odds are probably slim.
Eliminate mail in ballots. Require absentee ballots have strict standards. All voting occurs on one day. People meet the requirements or they dont vote. Develop an honest agency to administer elections. Eliminate judicial review. This should work well enough.
Every day the dems give real Americans a reason to take up their pitchforks against them.
Every day it gets worse. If only there were a cure for their mental disease they wouldn’t need to be “poked”.
We need national basic standards and guidelines.
If this continues there's no hope for fair, honest, and credible elections.
Should it come as no surprise that provisional ballots came into being after the Bush/Gore fight in 2000?
No more of this early voting crap, either.
In other words, include moron votes and non-citizen votes.
Everybody’s known about Broward corruption for decades. When Florida had Republican governors and Republican legislatures, why didn’t they go in and clean them out? Because they are ALL feed at the same trough.
Same goes for other states, example, Pennsylvania. There were Republican governors and legislatures, yet Phila and Pittsburgh get away with reporting more votes than people who live there, and it never gets investigated let alone cleaned up. That is not unintentional.
It’s all a sick joke, has been for decades, and will continue to be, until the People have had enough, and take it back. Or, onward to hard tyranny.
