I guess being either in the suburbs or the city, I can’t IMAGINE this kind of damage and have no idea how fast fire can spread like this.

We get brush fires on Staten Island but they never seem to travel far.

CONCOW — A roadblock Wednesday outside Concow was related to Cal Fire’s investigation into where and how the deadly Camp Fire started, Cal Fire-Butte County Chief Darren Read said Thursday.
The roadblock, which was on Concow Road somewhere between Mountain Pine Lane and Rim Road, was manned by security guards Wednesday afternoon.
Read said he would make an announcement related to the closure Thursday evening.
Read said Cal Fire’s probe of the Camp Fire’s cause and origin, which sparked Nov. 8 and has become the state’s deadliest and most destructive wildfire ever, has led investigators in multiple directions, but he would not provide more details about his announcement.
Decades of forest mismanagement, illegal to clear dead trees, clean up underbrush, provide buffer zones around houses, etc., etc., etc.
That’s utterly absurd and inviting death on a massive scale.
You need buffers so the fire will Stall.
This is almost murder.

It came up over a ravine and right into the eastern edge of town. I was talking to my friend over the radio around 8 that morning. He was gathering the critters and high tailing it out. They took two cars, but one stalled, ran out of gas, was blocked, I am not certain, so they then got into their little chevy SUV and tried to make to to Magalia where is daughter lives/d and her children. That road was blocked. All roads were blocked. At one point monitoring the radio I heard calls for air assets to drop righht on the Skyway where people were trapped at a standstill trying to get down the hill. The drop fell short of its mark due to smoke.
My friend, who is 83, mind you, tried to find a way out of town, but all roads were blocked with fire. He as well as some 100 others shelted at a newere building with a metal roof as fire fighters poured water. I heard the call for water tenders as they wre running out of water. All were saved and he and his family is safe.
It is a mess. A real disaster. The shock is still there, but beginning to slowly wear off like a drunken night and the severity of it all is starting to sink in. People are getting impatient with returning to see their ashes and what, if anything is savalagable. Power lines still across roads. Firefighters still fighting fires in the interior of the area.

When this fire started crowning it jumped gaps over 1/4 mile. The vortex would shoot embers a half mile away.
That’s a lot of buffer zone.
But, as you said, the fuel load was crazy high. Not to mention the winds when it started.
And everything drier than a desert bone.
The beautiful little town never had a chance.

Like I said, being mostly a city person, I can’t even imagine it.
