FULL TITLE: First victims of Paradise fire are identified as death toll rises to 42 with 220 still missing making it the deadliest in state history with remains found in charred cars and the ruins of their homes
Four victims of what has now been confirmed as the deadliest wildfire in the history of the state of California have been identified as three men and a woman.
The official death toll in Northern California's Camp Fire has climbed to 42 after local authorities revealed that the remains of another 13 people were found on Monday.
Ernest Foss, 65, of Paradise and Jesus 'Zeus' Fernandez, 48, of Concow have today both been pictured as friends and family paid tributes to them on social media. Carl Wiley, 77 of Maglia and Ellen Walker, in her 70s, of Concow, have also been named as having fallen victim to the deadly blaze.
The Camp Fire now also ranks as the most destructive on record in California, having leveled more than 7,100 homes and other buildings since it erupted on Thursday, officials said.

Paradise is a popular retirement community with a quarter of the population there over the age of 65.
Honea said over the weekend that the devastation is so complete in some neighborhoods that 'it's very difficult to determine whether or not there may be human remains there'.
'In some cases, the only remains we are able to recover are bones or bone fragments,' Honea said, adding that these were so small that coroner's investigators used a wire basket to sift and sort them.

That is just horrifying. Over 200 missing.
There are a lot of "unofficial" emergency shelters, in churches, and a lot of them aren't reporting, in as timely a fashion, as the state run emergency service wants them to.
Kali Tyranny is like that.
Good God... that beautiful North State town is only 40 miles from where I lived. A horrible tragedy...
Is this deadly disaster due to Democrats giving more legal protection to dead vegetation than living people?
That’s part of it, yes.
Dead vegetation and ‘Goddess Gaia.” When Gaia (can’t think, speak, etc) becomes angry at the antics of humans-—using fossil fuels, water, air-—’she’ erupts in catastrophic fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. Ask Al “I’m a pantheist” Gore and he’ll affirm this lunacy.
Are most of the dead and missing elderly?
And to make it worse, there have been some on FR saying how they feel sorry for the wildlife with zero mention of the People who perished....thinking they are conservatives with values and talking like democrats where any life is more precious than a human life....
Why yes.
Yes it is.
Kali Porno Freepers in the past have also insisted that it is absolutely wrong and immorsl to hold Kali Porno responsible for maintaining wide swaths of grassland and pasture as firebreaks commensurate with the wind velocity they have there due to the immense value of the real estate.
Because, you know, combustion cares about the price of the land.
‘there have been some on FR saying how they feel sorry for the wildlife with zero mention of the People who perished’
yeah, right on...those vile people showing a modicum of concern for creatures trapped in horrible agonies ought to be strung up by the neck with piano wire...preach it, brother...
People evacuated to all across California and into Nevada, the most common emergency shelter is a family member or friend. A winery near me is hosting a family from Paradise and they did not register with Butte County.
As I tell everyone, make sure you register at shelter before you leave the area - lie if you have to that you’re staying at the shelter and once the paper work is completed and you’ve had a cup of coffee, then go check out with your destination.
FEMA registration can be done online at http://disasterassistance.gov, https://safeandwell.communityos.org/cms/index.php is technically Red Cross shelter registration (but I say do it in person.)
A lot of elderly in managed care were evacuated to other facilities and it took some time to connect them with their families. I suspect that there's going to be unfortunately a lot of elderly who will be found dead or presumed dead, over 25% of the town was over 65, according to this article.
I still dont get how someone dies in one of these that is not a firefighter.
Prayers up for all involved.
Hopefully most of those 200 people are taking refuge out of town, and have just not checked in.
Prayers for the loved ones of rhe dead and for the missing.
My brother's place went up a couple of years ago. He had fire breaks, so the house survived, but he nearly didn't.
The fire crested the hill, and he said it moved through faster than he could run. Luckily he had his car in the driveway, pointed down, so he could drop the hose, hop in the car, and go.
He should have been out of there the day before, but people want to save their homes, so they wait until the last minute. Sometimes they wait past the last minute.
There are two roads in and out of Paradise. 25K people trying to evacuate by two routes. Some literally died in their cars or had to abandon their cars to save their life.
