GOP knew for nearly year that holding the House was 50/50 at best and they didn’t pass anything that people want the lame duck session to pass, so why would they do it now?

Senate would filibuster anyway.

I wish we had removed the House Speaker from the line of succession a year ago.

This is the third LOSER (After Jason Kander and Beta O'Rourke) that people want to run for President. Interesting phenomenon.

This SOB has been on my radar. He ran against then Congressman Nick Rahall in the rat primary back in 2014, from the left I guess, he lost 2-1, but won a State Senate seat in 2016.

Progtards are in love with guy, fewer know who is than Beta O'Roukre but for those that have heard of him it's Beta on steroids.

They love him like we loved Allen West. Because he's a Bernie Sanders commie that fits the profile of "Trump voter", ex-military, brash and crude White dude, so they think he can win Trump voters. He claims he voted for Trump himself and feels "betrayed" by him, I don't buy that for a second. It's a line to sucker rubes, committed Marxists don't vote Republican, ever.

At one time I was worried he could win the West VA House race but he was way down in the polls and they were correct, he was blown out by 13 points in an open seat race (Manchin carried all 3 House districts).

I don't see how could possibly compete in the rat POTUS primaries unless he's sponsored by Soros or another billionaire which would run contrary to his anti-rich people shtick. He'll clearly never win high office in West VA.

He'll end up being a Bernie or Liz Warren surrogate and then join Jason Kander on the isle of misfit toys.

Fun fact, GOP Rep-Elect Carol Miller is the daughter of Former Ohio GOP Rep. Sam Devine, who was upset by a rat in 1980 for reasons I don’t know, Jimmy Farter likely wasn’t winning the district. The rat was defeated by Kasich in 1982.

Samuel Devine had been in Congress since 1958 at that point (1980). He was a Conservative and was ranking member of the Commerce Committee. Barone observed in the 1982 Almanac of American Politics (covering the ‘80 elections) that Devine was not very active in his position and it could be best described he was merely coasting.

His political zenith came in 1962 and 1968 when he got 2/3rds of the vote. But he underperformed by 1972 when he declined to 56%. He nearly lost to a woman in 1974, when he got 51%. It was even worse in a 1976 rematch against her when he won by just 1,500 votes and 46.5% (a Black 3rd party candidate running got 8%, which might’ve helped Devine, but he took some anti-liberal stances that in fact, might’ve taken votes from Devine). Devine was also outspent in his two last races in 1978 and 1980. Although he went back up to 57% in 1978, that was no better really than a Presidential performance, which usually would tend to be lower than the Congressmember would do.

Bob Shamansky had run against Devine as far back as 1966 (a bad year for a Dem to run), and lost by a 2-to-1 margin. Presumably, Devine thought a retread candidate would be easy to beat. Shamansky was not unknown and played the role of “the ignorant slut” on Columbus tv point/counterpoint segments. It helped him that he was a likeable guy in person (a la Wellstone in MN), and he went after Devine for being ‘do nothing’, and going so far as to align himself with GOP Gov. Rhodes on a jobs issue (to get moderate GOP support). So Shamansky won by a respectable 53-47% margin while outspending Devine 3-to-2. Reagan won the district with 55% (lower than Ford’s 56% in ‘76), though Carter got more votes overall, he dropped from 43% to 38% in 1980.

Devine was one of only 3 GOP incumbents defeated. The other two were Bob Bauman in Maryland, a Conservative rising star who was caught soliciting sex from a 16-year old boy (he still lost by just 52-48%), and the other was Bill Royer in CA, who had won the seat in a 1979 special after Leo Ryan was assassinated by the Jim Jones crew. Royer lost to moonbat Tom Lantos 46-43% even as Reagan carried the district with 49% (Carter did even worse here then in Columbus, getting 37%). Curiously, a hardcore Commie ran to the left of Lantos to get 7%. Royer outspent Lantos. Sadly, that’s loony-toons land today.
