I kept falling asleep during that part of the history class .. too much beer the night before ... so I’m a bit rusty on that period ... suffice to say your ancestors missed the horror.
I don’t know whether any died then but I had one who died fighting in the religious wars....late 1500s..two of his sons were Protestants...one became a Catholic priest...the priest pretended the father was still also a Catholic and buried him in a Catholic cemetery...the cemetery was destroyed during the French Revolution when the mobs were destroying anything religious...
