Full title: Jeff Flake reportedly considering 2020 Trump challenge: 'Somebody needs to run on the Republican side'
Arizona GOP Sen. Jeff Flake isn’t shutting the door on a possible White House run against President Trump.
The Arizona lawmaker – who announced last year that he would not be seeking re-election to the Senate – told Politico Friday that he hasn’t “ruled it out,” nor has he “ruled it in.”
“Just, somebody needs to run on the Republican side,” Flake said, adding that he thought Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., would also be good Republican alternatives to challenge Trump in 2020.
“I hope somebody does [run], just to remind Republicans what it means to be conservative and what it means to be decent. We’ve got to bring that back,” Flake told the outlet. “You can whip up the base for a cycle or two but it wears thin. Anger and resentment are not a governing philosophy.”

He couldn’t even get 30% in his own state! Nationwide he’d be lucky to get 10.
People like Flake are what’s causing the division. If he ever got the nomination, I would revel in watching him lose to the Dem.

Besides, America is apparently a long way from electing a Mormon to be POTUS. It’s already been tried and failed. And Mitt was a way more attractive/persuasive/viable candidate.
Well, if nothing else, it will be fun watching Trump crush him.
Jeff imagines himself a contender, which I’m sure is very pleasant and ego gratifying for him so long as it’s not proven a farce. He should do it, and find out the reality vs the imagination.

One of Flake's problems is the primaries. Trump will keep his base and Flake and 10 other Fakes will split the Rino vote.
Flake's best chance to destroy Trump is to run as an Independent. If Flake can get three percent of the vote in the general election as a spoiler, that could throw the race to the Rats in a close contest.
A Trump defeat would make the Flake happy.
Why does the phrase “delusions of grandeur” come to mind?

If somehow he was the nominee, they’d be calling him “Hitler”, too.
Actually he might probably pull more liberal progressives from the Dims then Repubs. It quite conceivable that as an inde he would hurt them more.
He expects to run as a Republican? Good luck with that. He’d get more votes if he changed parties. I hope he does run, and gets the shellacking of his life.
