I'm going to correct that. The National Defense Service Medal (and ribbon) is for serving during a war, even if the recipient is not mobilized to a warfare area of operations.
Never heard of a "fire watch medal." Personnel in the Army get the Army Service Ribbon upon graduation from initial training. Don't know what Marines get for graduating from initial training. But it would seem that they would receive something.
