Being armed or unarmed is, in many ways, a state of mind.
An armed person sees the world differently from a person who has decided to be unarmed. Nicolo Machiavelli, the famed author and political philosopher, states it well in The Prince:
Because there is nothing proportionate between the armed and the unarmed; and it is not reasonable that he who is armed should yield obedience willingly to him who is unarmed, or that the unarmed man should be secure among armed servants. Because, there being in the one disdain and in the other suspicion, it is not possible for them to work well together.
Reactions to a recent murder and self-defense shooting highlight the difference of the viewpoints of armed and deliberately unarmed people.
On 21 October, 2018, a neighbor, Tyler Herrick, entered a house, uninvited. Kyle Adams, one of two roommates, was in the house. He woke to find Herrick in his bedroom. Adams told Herrick to leave. Herrick left.
Adams texted his roommate, Brennan Pebbles. Pebbles immediately left work and came to the house. After Pebbles arrived, the neighbor, Herrick, entered the front yard carrying an AR15 type rifle. Adams and Pebbles were in the living room.

True - I’m more courteous and polite because I don’t want to escalate any situation that doesn’t need to take a serious turn for the worse...pisses me off at how many talk like they’re aching for the “opportunity” to end a life....you’ve likely seen a few of them over your time keeping us in the know about most things guns...

Exactly. They tend to avoid crowds as much as possible. They’re aways aware of the surroundings (situational awareness). They’re polite and go out of their way to avoid any trouble or a fight if at all possible. They stay away from places that trouble and fights may regularly occur.
However, on the other side of that coin...don’t screw with em. They will definitely defend themselves and their loved ones.

The unarmed are further divided into two groups - those who choose to be unarmed and leave it at that, and those that seek to disarm those who are armed, making the naive claim that doing such would somehow eliminate violence, as we saw in this column.
Many people are unarmed, but have not made a conscious choice to *be* unarmed.
Those people can be converted to the armed mindset much easier than those who have consciously chosen to be unarmed.
Much of the push for "gun control" is an effort to expand the size of those who are unarmed, but never chose to be unarmed.
I would add to that we tend to understand the “law” much better as well.
Yup. Since I am always armed, I'm always polite. Things that might otherwise get a comment from me get a pass because I know that I have instant access to lethal force.

As I write this post, my S&W 357, is in a drawer within inches, and a loaded 22 rifle, with bird-shot sits within 5 feet of my reach.
On every floor of my house, I have located a loaded weapon, and when I leave my home, at least one loaded weapon is with me.
I have no fear because I live in a 'safe neighborhood', nor am I hunting a bad guy to shoot, but I will not go to my death, begging for one more moment of life.
A trained, armed person has very little anxiety when walking into a ________ .

You still must accept in the Lord's Prayer the phrase, "Thy will be done", and then you can calmly face it, what ever 'it' is.
If you are a non-believer, I'm sorry for you, you gotta handle it yourself.

Absolutely. And we’re also understand the legal (and personal) consequences to us even in a 100% legitimate self-defense shooting. There are people out there running around that think they’re Wyatt Earp. They’ll have a rude awakening IF they ever pull the trigger in a non self-defense scenario.
OTOH, if the ultimate SHTF situation should ever actually unfold (God forbid) where there is a complete and utter breakdown of law enforcement, society etc., I have a looonnnggggg list of libs I’d like to pay a “visit” to. :)

Good point. The unarmed who have never given it much thought are more likely to become armed with the right encouragement. We have steered several friends and relatives that way by simply taking them to the range and letting them shoot our weapons.
Yes. I do not have CC, but I think like an armed person.
