Various press organizations have decided to chime on the Trump administration's decision to revoke Jim Acosta's hard press pass on Wednesday night.
The White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) slammed the White House and encouraged them to reinstate Acosta's access in a statement:
The White House Correspondents' Association strongly objects to the Trump Administration's decision to use US Secret Service security credentials as a tool to punish a reporter with whom it has a difficult relationship. Revoking access to the White House complex is a reaction out of line to the purported offense and is unacceptable
Journalists may use a range of approaches to carry out their jobs and the WHCA does not police the tone or frequency of the questions its members ask of powerful senior government officials, including the President. Such interactions, however uncomfortable they may appear to be, help define the strength of our national institutions.
We urge the White House to immediately reverse this weak and misguided action.
We encourage anyone with doubts that this reaction was disproportionate to the perceived offense to the video of the events from earlier today.
The Reporters Committee For Freedom of the Press had a similar sentiment as the WHCA. Here's their press release:
The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, the nations premier defender of the legal rights of journalists, joins the White House Correspondents Association in vehemently objecting to the revocation of a CNN reporters access credentials. Journalists have a right to ask questions and seek answers on behalf of the American people.
This is clearly inappropriate and unprecedented punishment by the Trump administration for what it perceives as unfair coverage by the reporter, and White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders false description of the events leading up to it is insulting not only to the nations journalists, but to its people.
The founders of our country knew there would be tension between our leaders and our journalists. In fact, they designed our system that way, knowing that a free and assertive press is the best defense against tyranny.
We urge the White House to reconsider this overreach of power and to reinstate Jim Acostas credential immediately.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the Trump administration stands by their decision.
“Revoking access to the White House complex is a reaction out of line to the purported offense and is unacceptable “
What? You don’t believe the woman? Or you don’t care, if it’s just a boob grab.
Acosta needs psych help.
This is why you need to give your children QUANTITY hours of personal, individual, positive attention. Day care doesnt cut it. If your child is not secure in his own skin by age 6, quit your job and stay home until he is. Or the rest of us have to pay.
So smacking around SOME women is OK with them?
Acosta wanted to make drama. He is not a journalist (not that you said he was).
But then, he’s CNN.
Keep him out of the White House. He’s already stepped over the line multiple times. Multiple times that day, alone.
[Pull CNNs credential and bring in the National Enquirer, Globe, and National Examiner.]
A reasonable solution. Watch CNN sink even further. I’ve got popcorn.
[Acosta was grandstanding , showing disrespect to the office and denying other reporters time to ask a question.
Acosta should be banned permanently.]
Yes
THAT’S on Huff Po? I may faint......
I mean, it’s still got liberal spin, but....
How about a nice cup of STFU, WHCA?
LOL - It’s a joke
Then this is a tacit admission that if the video was not doctored then Acosta should be banned from the WH.
They can claim it was no big deal or they can claim it is a fake video. By claiming it was a doctored video then the are admitting that what it shows was, in fact, a very big deal. .
LOL ya got me!
I had a hard time believing it was true! LOL
EXACTLY! Well said.
No!
There is no body called "the press" in the Constitution. As I say in my tagline, the first amendment gives the People the right to a free press, it does not create a body called The Press.
We the People are all The Press.
-PJ
Reporters should listen and report the news. A reporter should be a fly on the wall, but they seem intent on getting into the soup.
You're kidding, right? Watch movies much?
Agreed 100%!
