Tattooed trenchcoat-wearing ex-Marine, 28, is identified as gunman who massacred twelve people during student night at country bar: Suspect killed himself after hurling smoke grenades onto dance floor and slaying cop in California
xxx xxxx, 28, opened fire at Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, Southern California, at 11.20pm He was dressed in all-black and let off at least 30 shots from a pistol with an extended magazine Witnesses said Long also let off smoke grenades to confuse the terrified crowds In April, police and mental health specialists were called to Long's home after a disturbance but they cleared him instead of having him committed It is unclear if he bought his .45 caliber handgun after that incident or if he already owned it The weapon was legally purchased in Ventura County but Long modified its magazine He killed himself after killing 11 people inside the bar and a sheriff's sergeant who responded to the scene There were around 100 people inside the bar, including some who were under 21, who were there to dance The College Country Night is a regular fixture and youngsters from nearby colleges can go and stamp black X's on their hands to mark that they won't drink Some of those inside were students at Pepperdine University and others are thought to have gone to California Lutheran University - both are Christian schools

How sad——last at Keneohe——good duty after deployment——his family must be devastated by this.
.
Sad.
Sadder since no one could defend themselves as CA is not a shall issue state and very few people can have a conceal carry license that could have stopped this.
Thanks for posting this article. It always amazes me how this British paper gets photos and info that haven't shown up yet in U.S. media stories.
How many combat tours?
No AR, no major coverage. If you like your rifles you can keep your rifles.
sounds like he lived with a single parent mom - she had called the cops on him for shooting a hole in the wall and throwing a chair at her. Evaluated (last year?) and released.
This is about the 7th or 8th military vet involved shooting. We are failing them somehow. We need to fix it.
Idea: military gets cops called on him, evaluated and released, this should trigger immediate notification to a military PTSD strike-team who will be tasked with crawling up his butt 24/7/365 until he’s squared and sane.
I agree. The PTSD is VERY real and needs addressing asap.
.
Or, maybe there was nothing wrong with him at the time.
Why didnt hundreds of thousands of vets from Korea , WW2 and Vietnam shoot up society? Why is only vets from the last twenty years or so?
“Sadder since no one could defend themselves as CA is not a shall issue state and very few people can have a conceal carry license that could have stopped this.”
That is NOT an all together true statement! In 36 of CA’s 58 counties, you can get a CCW for the asking, although there are some really bad counties where the Sheriff won’t issue them. By State Law, it’s up to the county LEO’s. Ventura County (where today’s shooting occurred) is a county that routinely issues CCWs to citizens. See graphic in this article:
http://www.chairez.com/how-to-get-a-concealed-weapons-permit-ccw-in-california
You have to scroll down to see the county by county position.
He wasnt home, yet. He needed help coming home and we failed him.
Now everyone has to pay a much higher price.
Instead of healing one, now how many need to be healed?
This was stupid on our part, but stupid can be fixed.
But doing nothing now, after we know we have a problem, that would be ignorant ... and evil.

Amazing, indeed.
Even now, anti-gunners / anti-2nd Amendmenters are plotting how to use this latest incident to seize all weapons and how to blame the Christians killed for being such party animals and they were asking for it.
A couple of comments, from your link...
Of course the focus will be the gun and not the shooter
No mention that per FBI stats the only 0.7% of guns owned in the US are used in a crime
And of that 0.7% of the gun[s] used are by 80% who have a criminal record
We need criminal control not gun control
We dont want a informed public
Only a knee jerk reaction
****
And California having some of the strictest gun laws in the Country. Just goes to show that gun laws arent the answer. This is the second mass shooting aimed at Conservatives.
“Why didnt hundreds of thousands of vets from Korea , WW2 and Vietnam shoot up society? Why is only vets from the last twenty years or so?”
I have an opinion on that, and it’s just MY opinion.
Men from those older wars could come home and be MEN——and get men’s jobs——fire, police, cablemen, etc———before the dreaded feminist movement reared it’s ugly head-—(and I AM a woman).
Younger men just don’t have the same “macho” aspirations, and are being constantly told that women can do anything that they can do-——and it leads to frustration and the inability to handle stress the way that older men could.
As I said, just my opinion——and probably all wrong.:-)
,
Thanks to the ACLU.
The WOT is the first time the US Government has actively fought its own chaplains.
Nothing spells safety & security & protection from harm like a Gun-Free Zone, eh?
Sebastian Junger has a similar take on the issues. He has a couple of good Ted Talks that are on YouTube.
That would be millions.
