WASHINGTONPresident Trump is expected to sign a directive this week that will make official his plans to revamp the U.S. asylum system, part of his broader push to crack down on undocumented migrants entering the U.S. illegally.
Mr. Trump is expected to sign the directive as early as Friday morning, before leaving on a trip to Paris, administration officials said. Last week, Mr. Trump said he intends to sign a comprehensive executive order on the detention of apprehended migrants, including those seeking asylum status.
According to the directive, U.S. officials will require asylum seekers to go to a point of entry along the border and make a claim for asylum, which would bar those who cross illegally. Currently, migrants who cross the border into the U.S. have up to a year to request asylum, regardless of how they got here.
The argument being made by the administration is that this change will enable safer, more orderly processing and better resource planning, an official said.
The officials, who have seen a draft of the directive, said the intention is to implement the directive temporarily, although a time period wasnt specified.
Mr. Trump said last week he wants to keep undocumented immigrants apprehended at the border in detention until their legal cases are heard, rather than allow them to be released into the U.S. to await a hearing.
The new directive follows Mr. Trumps order to send thousands of U.S. troops to support border-control efforts. The president has also said he would sign an executive order ending birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants, a proposal legal scholars say would be unconstitutional.

” I have no objection to people getting asylum who really need it”
If a million people apply for asylum for a legitimate reason, we can’t grant it to all of them.

Thank you, POTUS!!
And of course, the RATS will go nuts about Trump interfering with their voter base machine....

Tough frijoles!
Excellent. This isn’t a football game, where if you get a finger over the goal line you score. Screw that noise! What makes this country great, besides the essential compassion of its people, is that we are a nation of laws. Get rid of that, and the whole thing falls apart - and we elected DJT to be POTUS because we do not have to, and do not want to, stand by while that happens.

GOOD!
Dems: You can’t stop the caravan, they are seeking asylum and the law says you have to give them a hearing!
Trump: Oh, you mean this law that I can change unilaterally with an Executive Order?
So the only thing that could stop this quickly is federal judge shopping? Could Congress veto this decision with a majority vote?
There will still be caravans, but they will not be covered by the press as they were leading up to the election. October's caravans were political theater. Now, the mission is to keep pushing more migrants into the USA to create leftist voters. The press will do as they are told and keep quiet until more theater is needed.
What is the latest news on the “caravans”??? Haven’t heard anything since the elections...
Johnathan Turley got this right the other night on FNC - it is a brilliant move to force a SCOTUS decision on the 14th Amendment. Naturally, the MSM got it all wrong in order to label DJT 'stupid', 'tyrant', 'dictator' etc. etc. etc.
The MSM really is making itself the enemy of the American people! ...by refusing to properly inform them.
They have outlived their usefulness to the left, and further media coverage would only hurt the cause. I suspect they are mostly being abandoned. The caravans are dissolving into smaller groups. Some will stay in Mexico, some will go home, some will attempt to enter the USA illegally. Very, very few will attempt to apply for asylum at a point of entry. All just assumptions on my part.
“GWB...pickup the White Phone...a Mr Schumer would like to talk with you”
a directive - I worry that Trump’s orders will be erased as quickly as he erased Obama’s orders. Time for Congress to get moving.
So I wonder how long it will be before some liberal judge declares that Pres. Trump’s executive order that says unless you ask for asylum at a legal port of entry it will not be granted is unconstitutional.
