I understand the direction you are going here. And suicide is also a serious problem. But we are at a point where harming others besides themselves is becoming just as much of a problem.
What happened to the days when a mental health provider actually earned their money with support and dialog instead of just running them through like cattle prescribing dangerous drugs and accepting events like this as an acceptable side effect?
It really needs to be seriously addressed because there has got to be a better way which might protect both sides of this equation.

psychiatric hosptials are revolving doors. There are no long term commitments to state hospitals except for violent crime. The laws do not work to protect the public from the mentally ill or the mentally ill from the public.
Psychiatric illness is about symptoms and lack of judgment, and the talk therapy you reference is not useful for the significantly mentally ill.
We have lousy leftist polities for the mentally ill, that should have been rectified a long time ago. The sixties are over. Medication is not the answer for people who will not take them and roam free.
Being prescribed medications does not mean the patients are taking them.
Wow are you brilliant!
We have laws on the books re psychiatric admissions to hospitals. 72 hour hold if someone is a danger to themselves or others.
“Support and dialog???” You obviously have NO CLUE about the lack of psychiatric services —doctors, therapists, nurses, etc— THAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE either at the VA or in the community!!
I’M sick of all this BLAH BLAH about MH health and guns.
1) WE DONT’ HAVE ENOUGH MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES.
2) YOU CAN’T JUST LOCK SOMEONE UP AND THROW THE KEYS AWAY...THAT WAS 70 YRS AGO.
