I don’t see at this time a mental connection between being a former Marine and a C and W bar full of college age students. Probably a nut disenfranchised from society as he saw it.
My guess a life long loser who could not cope with being rejected by the culture so he joined the Marines and was a general discharge eventually and viewed the student group as those who were “chosen” in life. That area and those schools are not inexpensive to attend. Not a racial or religious thing IMO. (shot the girl at the entry gate, why, she was not a threat). Loser.
BTW, I thought this could not happen in a state which has pretty much banned these mags and firearms.

I sometimes carry without a round in the chamber. Never at night (when I'm rarely out anyways) and I haven't been in a bar since before I retired. If I carry at night, I put a round in the chamber before going out.
Still...in a scenario like this, if I hear a gunshot outside the door, I'm going to draw and chamber a round ASAP. I've bumped up my carry from my LCP to a Ruger LC9 with a spare magazine. By the time the guy enters, I will have my gun fully ready to fire - and I'm no Quick-Draw MacGraw!
In Arizona, among 100 people, there would probably be a dozen doing the same thing. Heck, the crossfire might be the most dangerous thing in Arizona! But of course, in a college bar in Southern California, only the murders are allowed to carry guns!

That black hoodie does not dissuade me in the least from my initial impression that this was Antifa, nor do the reports that he wore a black trench coat, had a bandana covering his face and was heavily tattooed.
Former military does not preclude Antifa. Muslim does not preclude Antifa. All outward signs do point to Antifa.
