To: old curmudgeon
It is very dangerous to equate common sense with the law.

As a lawyer, I wholeheartedly agree. My point is simply that there are no bright lines with regard to justification for self defense, and one might be reasonable in believing to be in imminent danger with angry mob hurling threats from one's front yard, depending on the circumstances.

Well I am not a lawyer

But I carefully read about every self defense case I come across

Just one man lighting a moltov cocktail would be a self defense situation permitting deadly force

But I have read of more than one case that held that threats in do not justify deadly force

You know better than I that it all depends on how politically ambitious the prosecutor is

So I always try to get would be rambos to be careful
