Why can we call the Democrats taking the House this early? Fox News anchor Bret Baier asked analyst Chris Stirewalt. Because were just that good, Stirewalt replied with a proud smirk.
That just about sums up Foxs election coverage of the 2018 midterms. It was a self-indulgent display of self-promotion, bickering, and irresponsibility as the entire House was called before polls in the western part of the country had even closed. One has to wonder how many people were deterred from voting when they heard Republicans had already lost the House.
There was a time when news media covered elections without needing to be the first horse out of the gate with results. Reporters would patiently wait for polls to close, for the numbers to be tallied, and for a clear winner to be tabulated. That changed with exit polling and guesses about whether these reflected what really happened inside the voting booths.
Last night, Fox News jumped the shark. They had a new system they claimed would deliver unprecedented accuracy -- they used voters surveys along with the APs race results to predict outcomes. With this methodology, they called the House before anyone else -- to the anger of many viewers.
With just two gains by Democrats and still early in the evening, Baier suddenly announced that the Democrats had taken the House. Not we project that theyve taken the House (an addition they made later after, no doubt because complaints flooded their phone lines). Not simply we think this will be a good night for the Democrats based on our analysis. Nope, they jumped ahead in time and declared it as if it had already occurred -- with many people not even voting yet.

We’re watchine OAN at this minute.
At 9:00 is Liz Wheeler, and she has one of the best shows on any news channel.
We love OAN in our household.
“Early prediction or not, the results wouldve been the same, when the only areas left to predict were thoroughly blue.”
Horse hockey! There were a good number of competitive house AND SENATE races in the west. Faux calling the race for the house for the rats was unconscionable. These Faux fascists made the call in order to suppress conservative voter turnout. Faux needs its nuts stomped into the concrete.
The west coast is blue territory throughout
******
A lot of it is, but there are a lot of red counties in California outside of the metro lib areas. I don’t know if they could’ve helped us with House seats, but maybe... If voters figured they’d just stay home since their vote wouldn’t matter that’s a problem.
To assume Fox(or any other news) ruined the chance for Republicans to keep the House one has to:
Assume every possible voter watch Fox news...
Saw this announcement at the time...
Believed this announcement...
And decided not to vote...
And are idiots....
Sad to believe conservatives have such a low opinion of other conservatives...

Which was exactly the purpose!
We bes Fuxed!
.
Look in the mirror!
Then F___ off!
Fox News has never been a conservative news channel, it has always been a news and opinion influencer whose *target* audience is conservative.
On election night in 2000, I stayed up flipping between the broadcast networks. Fox was the first one as far as I could tell, to call Florida for Gore - with something like 18% of the precincts reporting, if I remember rightly. And before the Central Time Zone portions of the state had closed their polls.
The rest of the networks piled on after that, because they sure couldn’t be scooped by the upstart.
Remember we are just a target audience, and ask why they are trying to target us.
That kind of reporting should have never been allowed to occurred and Faux News themselves should be investigated for election tampering.
Stirewalt does not like President Trump and it shows.
Dana P and company got a reality check today when they found out Sessions had been fired. The long faces were such a treat. The little celebration they started last night sure ended quick once they found out DJT is the President Of The United States and wields tremendous power.
I shut it off right at that moment. I am done with FOX .
Cancelled YouTube TV last night (only had them for Fox News) and now have a subscription to OAN. I like it so far! It ought to be illegal to release vote tallies in a national election until all votes are collected.
OAN Link ?
The rest of the networks piled on after that, because they sure couldnt be scooped by the upstart.
Nope. NBC was the first to call Florida for Gore.
Go F^ck youself!
I voted in every election since I turned 18 and never had I let the news..or the weather.. or the candidate of my choice not having a chance of winning deter me from entering the voting booth.
Letting a talking head be an reason not to vote is an excuse of weak willed, the lazy and the whiner who didn’t want to vote in the first place.
This is an excuse and those who make it or fall for it are losers who will always find an reason not to try and win
They are pathetic.
Their house organ the NY Post were already floating a Doomberg run last week
.
You made an unreasonable assumption.
Kiss my A$$.
In the eyes of Faux, Dem controlled House brings impeachment. Impeachment makes great TV. Thats their bottom line. They could care less whats good for the country.
