Schumer Warns of Constitutional Crisis After AG Exit

Upon learning the bombshell news that Attorney General Jeff Sessions was out on Wednesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer quickly warned of a constitutional crisis.

A new attorney general must not interfere with the investigation from special counsel Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign, the New York Democrat warned. Schumer was handed a paper informing him of the Sessions news during a press conference and he told reporters that any tampering the Mueller probe would amount to a "constitutional crisis."

"Protecting Mueller and his investigation is paramount," he said it would create a constitutional crisis if this were a prelude on ending the Mueller probe.”

Why in the name of God is this "Mueller Investigation" dragging on, and on, and on? There's nothing to see. There was no crime. If the DOJ was given unlimited time and resources to root around anyone's life, they could find "crimes", everything from violating the Clean Waters act for clearing out your drainage ditches, or ripping the labels off your mattresses Whatever.

So the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the United States dismisses a subordinate, and, as a result, the reporting relationship of another subordinate changes.

What about this has anything to do with the Constitution?

Trump’s office is provided for under the Constitution. Sessions was confirmed by the Senate and has resigned. In due course (with 55 Republican Senators, and no Flake, Corker, or McCain) a new AG will be nominated. Before that, an inferior, non-constitutional officer will be acting AG as per the Judiciary Act passed by Congress and signed by a President.

I’m still not seeing the “crisis” here.

Schumer has been reduced to a voice crying in the wilderness.

One wonders if he will be reelected leader of the minority

OK

but I thought there were only three people that could be acting AG if he was “fired”

and I read on other thread the one appointed today was NOT one of them

Trump needs to go nuclear and release all FISAs and all else that needs to be out in public. This how you checkmate Chuckie and the Dems.

If Trump wants to nullify all accusations of obstruction of Justice he needs to drop the big one now. Meaning release all DOJ/FBI/ Comey/McCabe etc material that has nothing to do with national security.

warned of a constitutional crisis

A constitutional crisis is where the country faces some existential threat and the constitution prevents anyone from acting. Just because he doesn't like the result of the executive acting within his sphere of power doesn't make it a crisis.

The only crisis for Schumer would be the resulting lack of a crisis. E.g. Rule of bureaucracy 1 - maintain the problem; Rule of bureaucracy 2 - use crises to increase power and control.

Firing Sessions doesn’t interfer in the Mueller investigation at all. Sessions recused himself two years ago so he has no role in the investigation; Mueller has indicated he’s wrapping up the investigation. Sessions doesn’t have to be employed by the government to talk to answer any final questions Mueller may have. Nor does Mueller need Sessions employed to produce his report.

I wonder how many days the Dem talking heads will cry in despair when Mueller’s report comes out that there was never any there. It’s the only thing they have left to cling to.

And worse!

OTOH...some of 2019 and ALL of 2020 will also be dedicated to the next election, so 2020 was a DO NOTHING AT ALL IN THE HOUSE was already a known commodity.

I have two choices for Atty Gen. Right of the top of my head I’d like to Rudy. However is there such a person who is a great lawyer, prosecutor, who is not knee deep in politics and who has not been knee deep in politics. I have no idea who that person might be. Do you?

How many years has the investigation been going on?
Mueller? DOJ/FBI/NSA? Senate? House?
Unlimited access to data, people, documents.

If the exit a single individual can blow all that up and cause a constitutional crisis, then there is a HUGE problem with our investigative system that failed to find anything. (or there is NOTHING THERE and the house of cards can fall by removing a single deuce - pun intended)

Exactly what is a so-called “ constitutional crisis”? Is that Schumer pissing his pants?
