California voters reject repeal of state gas tax and vehicle fee increase

Proposition 6, which would have repealed an increase in California’s gas tax, failed to win the majority vote needed for passage on Tuesday after Gov. Jerry Brown warned it would halt urgent repairs to the state’s crumbling roads and bridges.

Brown, who leaves office in January, said after the first vote tallies were announced that it was important that the initiative be defeated for the future of the state.

“This is one of the most significant votes in America tonight, because where else have people voted to tax themselves to pay for what they need?” Brown said to cheers at a Sacramento election watch party thrown by the initiative’s opponents.

“People know that you get what you pay for,” he added. “The people knew that the flim-flam of the yes people were exposed. When this Trump recession comes we’re going to have $5 billion going to transit and roads and bridges in California.”

What did they do with that money if the streets STILL need to be fixed?

They spent it on the "train to nowhere" in order to secure the labor union vote, as well as other "freebie" vote buying schemes.

My car registration went from 99 to 132 (without smog check) / 102 to 192.00 (with smog check). I had to forgo paying my telephone bill this month because registration fee was due on 11/12/18.

God I’m so pissed right now to learn it did not passed.

Isn’t it fun being deep behind enemy lines, every election just waiting for the wave attacks of idiots and drones!

And that’s exactly why it failed. Most people here do not take the time to actually know what a yes/no vote on a proposition does. I’ve seen them worded so that a yes vote does just the opposite of what you would think it would do. They’re very dishonest about the way they write them.

I know. We have to do research and check with trusted sources before voting on the propositions.

Our vote for Senator was a joke. This Dem or this Dem?

IE: This big spender or this big spender?

I am also angry that it did not pass...I was looking forward to saving money while filling the gas tank...

In Orange County, 56.5% voted yes...
In LA County, 60% voted no...LA County is the biggest County in CA...

People were influenced by scary ads on TV against Prop 6.

Yes, indeed CA AG Becerra did not help Yes on Prop 6 campaign with his descriptions...

However, every CA voter got Official Voter Information Guide in the mail. The Guide explains what yes means on Prop 6...
The supporters of Prop 6 were given space to make their arguments...

I am not happy with what Becerra did...But, the reality is that many CA voters are OK with paying more taxes...I find that really scary...

Firefighter, Highway Patrol, and Civil Engineer associations
= = =

I think these were fake ‘associations’ made up for the ads.

Actually those unions do exist...
Yes, indeed, CA Highway Patrol Officers have a union...

If there is a future attempt at repeal, we need someone more effective than the last leader to run it as well. He’s quick to blame others but evades taking part of the blame, which is spread around.
