Did nothing of value as Speaker. Didn't discourage at least half of those looking to retire into sticking around another two years where we could have maintained control.
He lined up his K Street job and started throwing bombs towards Trump (which he also did a few days before the 2016 election).
Trump worked and saved the Senate and made the difference in some key governor races. Tonight was not a Trump defeat.
Part of it was history -- midterm election usually results in out of power party winning. But this was winnable.
Ryan blew the House.
/rant
Rand Paul voted against repealing the ACA?
I hope he fades into the obscurity he so richly deserves.
And by the by, who ever heard of House Speaker giving up that position voluntarily? Was he one of the people whose trouble with sex caused hush money from the House fund to be sent? I have no idea why a young man quits. Unless he wanted to turn the house back to Pelosi, then take on Trump in the 2020?
Might?
Now that Florida has another 1.5 million Democrat voters (felons right to vote passed), is it possible for Trump to win re-election without Florida?
I agree; so does Lou Dobbs, I predict.
Yep
Agreed.
But give McConnel some credit too for expanding the Senate majority. Not for his policy leadership but for fully funding his candidates (who are now beholden to him).
Devastated this AM......... here in Wisconsin. Gomer Evers beat our terrific Gov. Walker. Can’t tell me there weren’t again historically fake absentee ballots in MKE that came in at last minute.
Paul Ryan did everything he could to harm Trump. in late 2016 right before the election, he nearly got booed off the stage here in WI when at a rally.
He was like Sessions, because he retired, sat back and did nothing for the party, just the opposite, ever since he announced.
This whole “I hate Trump and will do whatever we can to damage him” is so disgusting. May they rot.
Yes.. I’m bitter.
At least the dumbass is gone.
Sometimes you have to prune out the dead wood in order for the tree to being to flourish...yes, those 45 never trumpets were deadwood to the good of the Rep party, but perhaps we can start getting better, younger reps for our side....
“We are back to gridlock”
To the contrary, Trump has said he could of work with Dems on infrastructure - part of his 2016 campaign promise that Ryan blocked. Trump is right that we need it!
If Lindsey Graham could transform almost overnight from John McCain's echo to a supporter of Trump's agenda once McCain was gone, I wouldn't put it past the opportunistic Mitt to go along with the Trump program too, if only to survive politically.
Do nothing Ryan for sure.
Now we need to make sure Macarthy doesn’t become Minority Leader.
Mitt just needs to shut up and vote for Trumps nominees.
+1!!!
“Ryan blew the House. “
Ryan would have done the GOP a great service if he had resigned back in 2017, anytime in 2017. It would have given his successor a chamce at building a winning 2018 mid term capaign. Ryan knew after Trump was elected that he wanted to leave. He was no Conservative and would not fight for Conservatives. He should have stepped down as speaker and given the mantle to someone for whom winning was in their heart, as winning had left Ryan’s heart some time ago. His body language had been showing it for years.
45,000 fake ballots they held back after 100% reporting.
Total steal.
Wish we had an AG with balls to investigate it.
Recall how quickly Walker gave up his presidential campaign back in 2015. Most politicians have a certain window of opportunity where they can almost do no wrong. Some clever ones take full advantage of that moment. Others, such as Chris Christie and maybe Scotty Walker wait too long, then the window closes. Everything becomes harder once that golden moment has ended.
I don't think Walker ever really had a presidential window, or rather, when it was opened it revealed that he just wasn't presidential caliber. He took a courageous stand on an important issue and he won, which was great, but he wasn't a uniquely talented leader. An electorate is a fickle thing, especially in Wisconsin, which tends to be dominated by the liberals in Madison.
Time was when Democrats merely represented a little different way of wanting to govern our country. Now,many of them would seem to be outright criminals & traitors to the cause of our Republic. They need to be made to answer for this every time it happens. I guess we are going to need a lot better DOJ before that happens.
