Actress Olivia Wilde's mother, Leslie Cockburn, has lost in the House race for Virginia's 5th Congressional District to an alleged Bigfoot erotica fan.

Republican Denver Riggleman beat Democrat Cockburn, an Emmy award-winning journalist and first time candidate with 53.6 per cent to 46.3 per cent - despite tough campaigning by the Hollywood star's mother.

The House star, who backed and campaigned for her mom's run, has not commented on her loss.

Cockburn sensationally revealed over the summer that Riggleman was a fan of 'bigfoot erotica', suggesting the odd fetish made him unfit to govern.
