Many consider today's midterm election a referendum on President Trump, but one Pulitzer Prize-winning historian says otherwise. "I think it's a collective mirror on us, who we vote as our leaders, where we are going as a country, what are our values," Doris Kearns Goodwin said Tuesday on "CBS This Morning."
CBS News contributor and former "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer agreed.
"President Trump has made this, he wants it to be, a referendum on him. I mean, he thinks most things are a referendum on him. But that is beside the point," Schieffer said. "I think it's a referendum on us."

“Doris Kearns Goodwin”
I’m surprised there’s not a hyphen in her name.
Bet she drives a Volvo.
Report it!
Looks like death warmed over...
>>> Bet she drives a Volvo. <<<
And wears Birkenstocks.
You nailed it!
I so despise the MSM.
When Walter was doing the BSing on SeeBS news, it was the only game in town, not anymore...
They are right. It IS about "...who we vote as our leaders, where we are going as a country, what are our values..."
But not right in the way they think they are.
WHO WE VOTE FOR AS LEADERS: We should be voting in people who want to grow the economy, enhance industry, increase personal liberty, support the right to defend yourself with firearms, decrease the size of government, eliminate illegal immigration into this country, foster equal rights for all, and observe the Constitution.
WHERE WE ARE GOING AS A COUNTRY: We want to provide leadership in the world through strength and positive actions, make the USA a beacon for industry, make it an attractive place for intelligent and skilled people who might want to become American citizens, foster true religious freedom, reduce government intrusion into our lives, and provide a robust economy that has jobs so people can work and pay taxes to pay for the things the government should be providing us.
WHAT ARE OUR VALUES: We believe that every person should have equal opportunities, not equal outcomes. We believe that people can achieve, no matter their race, color, or creed, and that they can and will stand on their own two feet if given the chance. We believe that people are responsible for their own affairs, except in situations where they cannot for a variety of valid reasons. We believe that our rights come from God, not from the government. We believe the money we earn belongs to US by default, not to the damned government by default for them to dole back out to us as they see fit. We believe in taking care of our property and our world, but we are not going to allow the UN or any other organization to dictate our law to us, or take our money in taxes paid to them.
IF YOU SHARE THESE VALUES ABOVE, VOTE STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN.
IF YOU BELIEVE IN NONE OF THIS, VOTE DEMOCRAT.
If she drives a Volvo, she probably stole it from another author.
My thoughts as well.
To who? Is anyone in California going to care?
Doris Kearns Goodwin is a serious presidential historian. She has more hands-on knowledge of Lyndon’s Johnson than any other historian, living or dead.
