Sometimes a friendly prank between two football rivals can go too far.
That seemed to be the case recently when one of the Air Force Academy's real-life falcon mascots was seriously hurt during a prank before the annual rivalry football game against Army, in upstate New York, according to an Air Force Academy official.........

These cadets are lucky the raptor didn’t die. If it had, they would be facing serious criminal charges. As it stands right now, they’ll be lucky if they only get expelled from the academy.....
Stealing government property from a Colonel’s house, possibly causing a beloved military mascot to be euthanized, these folks shouldn’t be wearing the uniform.
They might have to euthanize. The bird is 22 y/o.
That’s just the start. Possessing and causing harm to a protected bird of prey is really going to screw them......
I’m curious as to why the falcon was in an Army colonel’s house when it was birdnapped.
I understand the whole ‘spirit mission’ thing, but this went beyond. This wasn’t a Navy goat or an Army mule. These birds are fragile. I detest cruelty against animals. I await West Point’s decision.
How stupid, putting a blanket over the bird and stuffing it in a crate????????
Falconry is probably the most restrictive and regulated endeavor in this country and the enclosures where they live have to meet govt. specs as do the cages they are transported in by the falconers.........
It wouldn't have been in the house due to the required size of the transportation cage. More likely in a sheltered area outside
Euthanized? This ESPN story seemed more positive outcome was possible.... http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/25176884/air-force-mascot-improving-injury-west-point?fbclid=IwAR1JGeXWcCUTnfRMiUpSprj1yYPqk4I-Ikpns8v9YKii4kVnF0mvWaHzN5I
Let’s hope, anyway.

I don’t know how true it is, but I’ve read elsewhere that it’s some sort of tradition. When on the road, the air force bird is cared for by an army officer. Inter-service cooperation, and all that.
Integrity and morality are long out the door at West Point. No way I’d consider hiring someone that graduated from the Academy in the current century. There may still be some good ones, but it really isn’t really worth the risk.
I hope the full bird didn’t tacitly approve of this.
That seems ridiculous to me. You believe a West Point Grad is less capable and trusting than a random university grad?
Thanks.

There are some careers that are over before they start. I hope they are not too far into their time at he Point. They wont be so disappointed to leave.
OT, but West Point is in “in upstate New York”?
Story obviously is written by a Manhattanite. To them, everything north of the George Washington Bridge is “upstate NY.”
Maybe they should be kicked out and then put into the regular army as enlisted and made to go thru bootcamp.
