Baltimore construction firms are training and hiring hundreds of ex-convicts because they cannot hire enough migrants in President Donald Trumps Hire American economy.
Project Jumpstart is a training program that prepares Baltimore residents for work in construction, says a CNBC report:
Its a 90-hour course designed to get workers ready for the realities of the construction job site. Classes are held twice a week and students receive a $25 stipend for each class. If they are late, however, they lose the stipend, and on the third absence they are out of the program, according to placement director Kate McShane. The project has placed roughly 650 graduates into jobs at more than 150 companies around Baltimore, which is still suffering from a massive crime wave that began when President Barack Obama began his anti-police campaign in 2014.
McShane says 75 percent of participants have some acquaintance with the criminal justice system.

There are a couple of great videos at source, one of which is of Mike Rowe interviewing a guy who is making it in Project Jumpstart. When Mike asks him what is his best skill, he responds, “I work hard.”
And, since black men are disproportionately in the felon category...
Our President is to the DNC what the guy with the chain saw was to the Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
I wish them the best as I would assume there are not murderers in the classes.
Likely narcotics and theft and simple assault.
All TERRIBLE things.
But this is their chance to leave that behind.
They’d be wise to take it.
Powerful stuff.
I was in construction as a kid. My Forman was like a dad to me. The law was laid down right at the start. Late means fired, no excuses. I was always at least 20 minutes early. Made good money. Learned that I didnt want to stay in construction.
Good. You shouldn’t have to pay for the crime forever.
Redemption is a powerful thing.
Jesus would approve.
Has this been published in the Baltimore Sun?
Former criminals?
This is fantastic. I believe in redemption. This is a real, tangible and productive way to turn ones life around. Thank you to legislators and Preside Trump.
I’m all for this type of thing.
A friend of mine teaches construction skills at a prison. It sounds like a total joke of a program because it’s maintained by the state board of education, not private industry.
The board of education expects him to earn a Masters Degree within a certain period of time because that’s what teachers do, not because it will be of any benefit at all to him or his students.
He’s been a carpenter for 20 years. That’s your degree.
Someone needs to give these guys a chance.
If they can make it, more power to them.
I wonder how the left is going to spin this story to make it look bad for Trump.......
My Post Office actually has signs on the door trying to recruit letter carriers at $17/hour.
I have NEVER seen that before in my 50+ years.
Depends on the crime and the criminal history.
I am sure your friend is a great teacher and I hope it helps some guys when they get out.
As far as public school teachers, the ones i’ve known had IQs up there with bricks and asbestos
He’s been involved with prison ministries for quite a while and has hired a number of ex-cons over the years with varying success. This is a new gig and the challenges of dealing with the establishment is killing him.
Those who can, do
Those who can’t, teach
Those who can’t teach become school administrators.
My brother teaches pre-engineering, CAD etc at public school. The challenges with administrations are insane.
