Author posits that perhaps this years midterm elections will play out like the Virginia election last year. Gillespie was closing fast in the polls and many predicted hed win, but Northam killed it. Republicans turned out their voters just fine - it was the biggest turnout for them in a gov race EVER.....:but Dems brought tons of NEW voters to the polls. And it wasnt close.
Are we going to see something similar?

Between Boston and Northern Virginia, there is a Blue wave (with lots of aggrieved NE College Students and recent immigrants); and in a few other cities, but Trump is going to bring out record numbers in rural counties. - JMHO
PS - VA is a 'special case,' John Warner(R) hasn't supported a Republican in decades; and there's lots of Never Trumpers there.

Who knows?
GOP turning out a lot of voters doesn’t mean a win, I’ve been saying this on all the EV threads.
We have to wait and see.

Voter fraud was what really happened.

Sorry, but Gillespie had no enthusiasm behind him.
He was another milquetoast Bush League Republican that refused to side with the citizens and the rule of law until the end of the campaign.
He only got as many votes as he did because we are so sick of Democrat Governors.

To compare the GOP politics in VA to rest of the country is sheer insanity. Anyone who makes this comparison is a complete idiot.

Not only did Northam win the Virginia race, he won by 9 points, a polling error more substantial than anything we saw in 2016.
um...you mean except for Trump\Hillary ?

The lines for Trumps rallies tell the tale. Republican gains in both houses or massive fraud.

article is unadulterated twaddle, shot though with BS phrases like “Enthusiasm in this election, though, is mostly fueled by Democrats” and “unpopular president in the White House” ... writer clearly lives in a bubble in Bizzaro World ...

It looks to me as though the Dems have the same turnout machine going that they had in 2008, so the RNC had better be on their game.

In Virginia, Gillespie lost because a lot of conservative Republican voters did NOT vote for him because he tried to run away from Donald Trump, until in desperation at the end he started saying a few nice things about Trump.
After Gillespie lost, they tried to blame Trump, saying it was disapproval of Trump and his agenda.
No, it was because these RINO candidates did NOT support Trump that Republican Deplorables turned against them and Gillespie.
In this election, there are quite a few Republican RINO incumbents (e.g., Barbara Comstock in Virginia 10th) who are going to lose because they have opposed Trump, not because the voters are angry with Trump and taking it out on Republican candidates.
The Trump-hating Ryan wing of the Republican party are losers, and it will show in this election.
It’s too bad that their lack of support for the duly elected Republican President will meen Democrats are back in power.
