THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

THE SINGING MARINE: ”YOU CAN’T RUN AWAY FROM LOVE TONIGHT”

Imagine the rivalry between Jack Warner at his studio and Pando Berman at RKO. Berman’s musicals starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers rang the cash register almost every time, while Jack’s musical division was pumping out one bomb after another. This 1937 movie is pretty much forgotten today but for one song. This is what is sounded like in the film. Note that Dick’s tenor singing style is somewhere between opera and crooning.

Thanks, Publius, for more tunes from The Great American Songbook. Harry Warren sure wrote a lot of good songs. ((HUGS))
