SAN DIEGO U.S. Border Patrol agents based in San Diego have spotted 15 drones flying between Tijuana, Mexico, and Southern California over the past 12 months, according to new data provided to the Washington Examiner.
Not one of the drone operators involved in those incidents was prosecuted for using an unmanned aerial system, or drone, around the international border, which is protected air space.

Villareal said the devices could be used to carry out a massive attack on the public. Someone looking to carrying out a terror attack could plant synthetic fentanyl on the drone and release it over a group of people. Just three tiny grains of the strongest fentanyl being smuggled into the U.S. is enough to put a person in a coma and a small baggie full of the substance would have devastating effects.

It would be an act of war.
The range of drones is limited, thus the controllers can be located which in turn means they the controllers can be blasted.
If it only takes 3 grains of this stuff to put you in a coma, it’s sounds more like a poison than a drug.
To date, not one drone operator was prosecuted for using an unmanned aerial system at the border......which is protected air space.
I tagged this story and it was a POP UP NEST!
PULL!
Ping — the caravan will certainly gain intel from cartel drones.
12 gage...
I hope you mean blasted....as in the wholesale use of explosive materiel.
Liz points out that the border is protected air space.
4runner points out that we ought to assume that one of the drones might be weaponized and a threat to our military.
Hostate suggests that we can track the signal and counter-attack the invader who operates the drone. That’s one aspect of electronic warfare, FRiends.
This is not exactly the same as a wild weasel operation. We could, however, triangulate the transmission if I’m not mistaken.
And we can jam them if we can’t catch them.
Protected air space?
So just shoot the damn things down. Shouldnt be THAT hard to figure out.
I have a friend that has a drone who lives several miles from Selfridge ANG base. If he wishes to fly it from his house, he’s required to first check in with the base for permission.......
Can’t be. Just as the Mexican military couldn’t have been seen crossing our southern border and firing upon our people.
I was told weeks ago how horrible it would be if President Trump were to fly drones over our southern border.
Only one side is permitted to do it, apparently.
We have military equipment which can automatically home in on a radio signal and shoot .50 caliber at the controller. Far preferable to shooting down the drone, as that action guarantees release of any toxic agent it might be carrying.
No shortage of military bases in San Diego, so why are they allowing this intrusion?
BTW: Six San Diego-area military bases will be used to assist at border for Operation Faithful Patriot
Glad to hear it.
Oh, most certainly they can. Hell, even for our annual Balloon Fiesta here in Albuquerque they were going after drone pilots violating the no-fly zone over Balloon Fiesta Park.
From that article: In fact, don't even try it, organizers emphasize, saying that new software for 2018 detects and tracks nearby drones as soon as they've been turned on.
Aerial Armor provides the drone detection services to track DJI drones. A continuous beeping noise from that software will let law enforcement at a Balloon Fiesta Park command post know if someone nearby has powered up a drone.
The tech will inform them of their altitude, the drone's serial number, where it is, where it took off from and, critically, the pilot's location.
"They intend to send FBI agents out to prosecute people criminally under federal law, if necessary, for violating the sanctity of the temporary flight restrictions here," Lisberg said.
We have the way, all it takes is the will.
Not sure POTUS would authorize it but yeah, that’s what I meant.
We’re getting to the point or past the point that examples need to made to serve as a deterrent, a strong one.
