Immigration Bringing More Leprosy to U.S.

Question: which extreme right-wing news outlet published that defamatory, scare-mongering, headline and report? Infowars? Breitbart? Fox News, perhaps?
Nope. It was . . . The New York Times. The article dates to 1983. But there have been more recent reports of the same problem, as here, here and here. In each article, it is mentioned that the great majority of leprosy cases in the U.S. are diagnosed among immigrants, many from Latin America.

JEFFREY GOLDBERG: They're talking about leprosy. Which I think is interesting, because leprosy, of course, is the most famous disease in the Bible. And I think they are trying to actually trigger people who are Bible-readers.

Until we get an antibiotic resistant strain of leprosy.
Hansen’s Disease (the modern leprosy) is a potentially dangerous infection of the skin caused by bacteria. These days, it is apparently easily curable, so give the immigrants the appropriate antibiotics, and then, for the illegal ones, send them back home.
In the Bible, leprosy could mean any one of a number of skin conditions. So it could mean acne, rosacea (for those who lived that long back then), eczema, Hansen’a Disease, psoriasis, etc.
Well, then, the infected immigrants either consent to undergoing the painful treatment — they’re not U.S. citizens, after all — or they go back.
Oh no’s! Those horrible “Bible Readers” are being triggered. Next they’ll trigger troglodytes, Neanderthals and gorillas.
Oh and it’s VERY expensive too.
I think following the older policies of health concerns from the 1850s should be followed. Just don’t let them in.
Specially with contagious diseases.
