Former Jewish community leader says Trump is right to visit Pittsburgh

Former Jewish community leader Gregg Roman said Tuesday that President Trump should visit Pittsburgh in the wake of the shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue, and that the community would embrace him.

"Any president -- Democrat, Republican, Whig, Federalist, whatever you want to call it -- their responsibility is to provide solace and comfort to their nation for people on one side of the spectrum politically or the other," Roman, former director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Pittsburgh, told Hill.TV co-hosts Buck Sexton and Krystal Ball on "Rising."

"And for him to be able to show up to Pittsburgh just three days after the attack, I think that the feeling of most people in that community that I knew for a very long time when I worked there is that they will appreciate a presidential outreach," he added. "So long as this is about mourning and providing comfort, I think that the community will embrace him."

The president and first lady Melania Trump are slated to visit Pittsburgh on Tuesday, just days after Saturday's mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue that left 11 people dead.

“I’m also going to the hospital to see the officers and some of the people that were so badly hurt,” the president told Fox News on Monday. “I really look forward to going. I would have done it even sooner, but I didn’t want to disrupt anymore than they already had disruption.”

However, some oppose the scheduled visit from the Trumps.

More than 57,000 people have signed a petition from the Pittsburgh affiliate of Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, telling Trump he's not welcome in the city.

The Tree of Life synagogue's rabbi has said Trump is welcome in the city.

“I’m a citizen. He's my president. He is certainly welcome,” Rabbi Jeffrey Myers said on Monday.

The same liberal lynch mob that doesn't want Trump to visit Pittsburgh is the same liberal lynch mob who would be screaming 'Trump doesn't care about the victims' if he didn't visit Pittsburgh.

More than 57,000 people have signed a petition from the Pittsburgh affiliate of Bend the Arc...

My new and improved FR personality forbids me from giving my usual response.

But those of you that know me can just guess at this point.

The Rabbi, on the other hand, sounds like a good man.

I’m Catholic. I’m of Italian descent.

Some are Jewish. Protestant. Some have Irish or German or other roots.

I’m AMERICAN.

That’s the one thing we ALL have in common. I would want my president to visit.

The Media just doesn’t want Trump to screw up the narrative they are working.

If he doesn’t go they will trash him for that.

I hope this doesn't expose him to hateful acts by liberals.

So glad that the sane Jewish voices of Pittsburgh are speaking out this morning.

I cannot believe that 57,000 people actually signed a petition from the Soros-funded anti-Jewish “Bend the Arc” bunch of loonies. I believe it was somehow manipulated. Bend the Arc by NO means represents Jews; it is a bunch of hardcore libtards with little to no Jewish education if indeed they are Jews. Many reform Jews are actually not Jewish at all, as only their father was Jewish, yet many of these claim to speak for Jewry. Vile fiends such as Soros use groups like this as cudgels against Trump and any other government figure who tries to confound their globalist plans. It is such a chutzpah that this “Whoever Heard of Them?” category of libtards claim to speak for Jews!

Exactly. Typical SOP treatment. They were ready go with either version to hate on Trump. After Katrina MSM were ready with both versions to hate on Bush. Bush showing up = bad. He just wanted the glory even though he was in the way. Bush not showing up = bad. He just didn’t care about brown folks.

Libs politicize everything if they can score. They are heartless and vicious.

I think the Tree of Life synagogue members should follow the lead of their wise Rabbi.
