Matthews police responded to a shooting at Butler High School this morning where one student was shot.
Police say the victim, who has not been identified, was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Another student was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered.
The police department says it believes this is an isolated incident.
Butler High School was on lockdown because of the shooting.
In a statement, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said law enforcement had secured the campus and that no person would be allowed on the campus until the lockdown has been lifted.
That would be my interpretation, as well. My sons got emails about this from the church youth director. Many high-schoolers in our church attend Butler.

Local news says the injured student is in critical condition, in surgery now.
I suppose the denizens of Hollywood, that great purveyor of violence, murder, and mayhem, will say this is due to Trump’s rhetoric.

It’s not the kids’ fault that a school has so many unbalanced types around them.
Imagine a story like that in my 1950s and 1960s K-12 era. A fistfight behind the school building or cigarette smoking in a boys rest room was the crisis requiring action back then at least in my suburb.
I started hearing about metal detectors installed, bans on wearing gang colors and plain clothes police work to find drug dealers at other schools only much later.
And recently bullet proof back packs selling well.
School is a tough place to be now.
unfortunately the victim has succumbed to their injuries. My heart goes out to the parents. I am sure they had no idea when their child walked out the door to go to school this morning it would be the last time they saw them alive.
Including all the leftist rhetoric.
