I am in Washington to attend Turning Point USAs first-ever Young Black Leadership Summit. Todays highlight was a visit to the White House, where President Trump addressed the group in the East Room. We arrived at the East Entrance to the White House around 9:30, started going through security at 10:00, and were in the White House proper by 10:30 or so.
At 11:30, Ben Carson warmed up the audience for the president. This is what a portion of the crowd in the East Room looked like as we waited for President Trump to appear. There were lots of MAGA hats in evidence, many of which Trump signed when his speech was over:
Trump got a rapturous reception from the Turning Point audience, which sometimes bordered on the rowdy, to the presidents evident delight. He began by acknowledging the arrest of the bombing suspect, whom he did not name. Nor did he comment on the partisan dimension of the bomb story. He praised law enforcement for speedily solving the crime and denounced political violence. He said that the Republican Party is the party of unity for all Americans.
The crowd at the Turning Point summit is the Lefts worst nightmarehundreds of young, articulate, thoughtful African-American conservatives. We chatted with some of them, mostly students from colleges across the countrya math major from Stanford, a filmmaker from Columbia, a political science major from DePaul. They sounded like pretty much any group of conservatives at a Trump rally: USA! USA! Build that wall! Trump! Trump! In short, it was fun.
This is the first couple of minutes when Trump emerges to shouts of USA! and begins his speech by talking about the bomber:
The Young Black Leadership Summit continues with a dinner tonight and a full slate of programs tomorrow and Sunday.
No. Associating “nutcases” with their legitimate opposition (now enemies) is their pattern.
It only works if you let it.
the money quote, my FRiend
Hey how ya doin’? I’m still hanging on. sigh
I SINCERELY doubt that.
1) Gave them a talking point.
2) The liberal media are abuzz.
I hope it doesn’t work out that way but 1 and 2 are both correct.
Have you learned nothing from PDJT?
None of that matters any more than we let it. The democrats are a fully known quantity now.
Have a little faith in regular Americans.
Well they’re lit up. No doubt with more idiocy. I still think the R’s will perform well.
I remember people voting for Obama.
Twice.
I just hope enough R’s are motivated where it counts.
I’m doing what little I can......
If our side can elect Trump, we can pull this one out.
Personally, I believe in Americans again.
From your keyboard....
And that's all he ever needs to say about what was essentially a bad prank.
We have nothing to fear, but fear of the media.
Dude, that is so becoming my tagline....
Working crazy hours here. Feast or famine.
Bracing for a caravan that may or may not roll through my neighborhood.
These sure are interesting times, FRiend.
Deep state behavior is so easy to see through its pathetic.
No, antifa does things like sending bombs to people. But doing things like that is entirely separate from being a Trump supporter.
You’re falling right in line with Maxine Waters. She also wants to pin this on Trump.
I think the president of the United States should take responsibility for the kind of violence that were seeing for the first time in different ways, Waters said. I think the president of the United States has been dog whistling to his constituency and I think that theyre acting out, but they believe the president wants them to do and the way that he wants them to act.
A warped viewpoint doesn’t fit with support for Trump.
The hat, the van stickers, the "registered Republican" bit. It all seems a little too perfect.
But just because he has been to rallies and wears the gear, doesn't necessarily make him a true supporter.
In the movie "In the Line of Fire" this guy sent lots of money to the President in hopes of getting close for a kill shot:
And who can forget this real-life whack-job who in "Taxi Driver" pretended to support Senator Palantine:
I'm not saying for sure the guy put up a false front, just don't be surprised if and when this story turns sharp, ahh... LEFT!
Don't be an ass. Demagogues like Waters are looking for problems to have, and people like you allow her have them by agreeing with her premise, but trying to posit exculpatory loopholes.
This is why Trump is a winner; ever since he gave out Lindsey Graham's cell phone number he's been letting the world know "I won't play the game by your rules. "Heads I win, tails you lose," in particular.
The only proper response to Waters and any of her doctrinaire devotees is BFYTW.
Why are you agreeing with the left. They have one (richly deserved) blip on the radar screen to bitch about, and you're so desperate to distance yourself from that one blip you act like a white liberal trying to prove he's not racist. I.e., you're giving validity to their premise instead of telling them "piss off, hypocrite."
What gets MY goat is you're here trying to keep US from telling them "piss off, hypocrite."
