Only the Left Can Stop Political Violence in America - Greenfield

Only the Left Can Stop Political Violence in America The Left unleashed it, the Left must stop it. October 25, 2018 Daniel Greenfield

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.

On September 9, Rudy Peters, the Republican running for Congress in the 15th District in California, was attacked by a knife-wielding man shouting, "F___ Trump".

The attacker, Farzad Fazeli, an Iranian Clinton supporter, had previously posted, “Don Trump won’t clean his own house, so he’s too dirty to know right from wrong. Impeach/incarcerate him before more children die. P.S. complacency is worse than being the shooter.”

Next month, Shane Mekeland, a Republican running for the Minnesota House of Representatives, suffered a concussion after being punched in the face at a restaurant. “You f____g people don't give a s___ about the middle class,” his assailant had shouted at him.

Mekeland is back on the campaign trail, while still recovering from the assault. “The media and the likes of Maxine Waters, Hillary, and Eric Holder as of late is driving this behavior," he warned.

"If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, at a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere," Rep. Maxine Waters had urged an angry leftist mob.

Eric Holder, Obama’s attorney general and a possible 2020 candidate, had urged, “When they go low, we kick them." He had tweeted at Democrats, urging them to, “Use the rage.”

Hillary Clinton had told CNN, "You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about."

Senator Hirono had refused to condemn the harassment of Republicans, telling CNN, "This is the kind of activism that occurs and people make their own decisions. If they violate the law, then they have to account for that.”

That same month, also in Minnesota, State Rep. Sarah Anderson, a Republican, was punched by a man when she tried to stop him from vandalizing her campaign signs.

Also in October, Kristin Davison, the campaign chief for Adam Laxalt, the Republican candidate for governor in Nevada, was left with pain and bruises after a confrontation with a Democrat operative. Her alleged assailant faces a charge of misdemeanor battery.

Three violent attacks on Republican political figures in just one month alone earned almost no coverage in the media.

Instead the media egged it on. Even the country’s leading leftist papers urged greater displays of rage.

October editorials, columns and op-eds in the New York Times included headlines such as, "Get Angry, and Get Involved," "Tears, Fury or Action: How Do You Express Anger?", “Fury Is a Political Weapon And Women Need to Wield It.”

The explosion of violence against Republicans in October was the culmination of a climate of crazed hatred, which lead to death threats, and when those were unaddressed, to actual physical violence.

In the two months from May to June, 30 Republican members of Congress were attacked or threatened.

These included, Christopher Michael McGowan who warned Rep. Bob Goodlatte’s staff, "I am not making a joke. I will kill him." It included Steve Martan, a "pacifist", who threatened to shoot Rep. Martha McSally.

E. Stanley Hoff was arrested for leaving a message for Rep. Steve Stivers warning the Ohio Republican, "We're coming to get every g_____n one of you and your families. Maybe the next one taken down will be your daughter."

Messages aimed at Rep. Tom Garrett threatened, "This is how we're going to kill your wife", and "This is what I'm going to do to your daughters."

And Rep. David Kustoff was nearly run off the road.

In the middle of June, James Hodgkinson (pictured above), a passionate Bernie Sanders supporter, opened fire at a Republican charity baseball practice, seriously wounding Rep. Steve Scalise, and Zack Barth, an aide to Rep. Roger Williams. Even though Hodgkinson had a hit list of conservative Republicans, Rep. Mo Brooks, South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan and Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, Rep. Jim Jordan, Tennessee Rep. Scott DesJarlais and Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith, the FBI denied that it was a political assassination.

In August, Carlos Bayon was arrested for threatening House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers. “We are not going to feed them sandwiches, we are going to feed them lead,” he declared.

Law enforcement found bomb and assassination manuals in Bayon’s house.

Around the same time, DeReal Finklin, a registered Democrat, was charged for sending death threats to Rep. Christopher H. Smith. DeReal had also posted, "Anybody outside of my blood in Monmouth or Ocean County on my Facebook account, you are dead."

In June, Laurence Wayne Key, a Democratic Party of Marin County volunteer, was arrested for threatening to kill Rep. Brian Mast’s three children.

“I’m going to find the Congressman’s kids and kill them. If you’re going to separate kids at the border, I’m going to kill his kids,” the Planned Parenthood supporter threatened.

In Florida, in June, Steve St. Felix was charged with threatening to kill Rep. Jose Felix Diaz.

“Ill kill your ass and you better not show up to the next rec meeting,” St. Felix, who can be seen grinning widely in his booking photo, warned.

In July, in Tennessee, Clifton Ward was indicted for threatening to kill Rep. Diane Black. In New York, Martin Astrof allegedly tried to run over one of Rep. Lee Zeldin’s campaign workers who had been recognized for feeding rescue workers at Ground Zero after 9/11.

Ian Nicholas Nix was arrested for threatening to kill South Carolina state Rep. Steven Long. Nix called Long “right-wing scum” and warned him, You’re a ____ dead man.”

Also in July, a man who threatened to chop up Senator Rand Paul and his family with an axe was arrested.

After months of this, the media did not relent. It poured more fuel on the fire. The death threats of summer then became the violent assaults of fall.

The media called this “activism”. It denounced Republicans for warning of “angry mobs”.

And now the very same media has suddenly decided that threatening and assaulting people whose politics you disagree with is wrong. As long as the political figures being assaulted are Democrats.

But it doesn’t work that way.

Democrats and their media allies have sanctioned violence against Republicans. They’ve defended harassment and even assaults as activism. They have embraced and celebrated hate groups. The mob culture they have brought forth is fundamentally changing the rules of American politics.

The alleged bombs should open a dialogue about the degree to which violence has become the currency of our politics. But instead the media will offer up the same tired talking points that ignore the violence of its side, while pretending that the culture of political violence in the last two years began yesterday.

It did not.

Once political terror is unleashed, it can’t be controlled or compartmentalized.

Leftists, who have written a bloody history of political terror from Europe to South America, from the Middle East and across Asia, and right back to America, ought to know that better than anyone else.

The Left has made it its mission to destroy America. This is what destroying a country looks like.

In Europe, in Russia, in Asia and in Latin America, leftist revolutions unleashed civil wars of unimaginable brutality in which ordinary men committed horrifying crimes because every norm of decency had been destroyed. The hour came when sides no longer mattered; there was no right or wrong, just murder.

In academia, there is glib talk of overturning Western civilization. But without civilization, there is only savagery. Political internecine violence is the savagery that comes when a civilization is rumbling.

The mad toll of death threats and assaults, of shootings and harassment was unleashed by the Left. The hectoring media has made millions from it. Fortunes have poured into the war chests of radical Democrats. They can make it stop. Or they can go on feeding the beast while blaming conservatives.

Obama, Biden, Holder and other top Democrats mainstreamed violent rhetoric. Rep. Keith Ellison, now running for Attorney General of Minnesota, openly celebrated Antifa. Black Lives Matter, the Southern Poverty Law Center and other radical hate groups that have inspired violence have never faced any consequences; instead they have only become more powerful and prominent.

Responsible leaders don't unleash political violence. And when they unleash violence and then only object to it when it affects its own elected officials, they have no moral high ground, only a sewer.

Daniel Greenfield is correct. Unfortunately, the left doesn’t read Daniel Greenfield.

Only the Left Can Stop Political Violence in America - Greenfield...

Then we’re in for a lot more ####ing violence.

In the tradition of Mao, Stalin, Hitler and other communists/socialists/fascists, they will continue as they know no other way.

The left is giddily accusing president Trump of inciting violence...among liberals. So far all the violence has been perpetrated by leftists who blame Trump for inciting them to violence.

Yes, they lie.

They harass, they lie, they attack, they blame the victims for their purposeful attacks.

None of these things they do happen by accident. And they know it.

The story that they are the only ones who can stop it is wrong. We can stop it. It just takes commitment and ammo.

The Violent Left and their Pushers want violence so Greenfield, while right in his contention that “The Left” is the only group that can stop their violence, many don’t want to for several reasons.

1. Democrats reverse the victims here, playing that part for themselves while accusing Conservatives, alt-right, the KKK and Rush Limbaugh of promoting hatred.
2. Wackjob congresspeople like Schiff, Waters, Warren, Sanders, etc. are making political points and positioning themselves for future leadership roles in a new fascistic or Marxist Democrat Party.
3. Some people are self-made psychos while others were born psycho, but now have a chance to let the cat out of the bag.
Some become radicalized like SDS supporters, and in the future, will calm down, but not after some become cannonfodder to the conservative reactions of force.
4. Some are hardcore Marxists, black racists, self-hating white (i.e. white privilege), men-haters (esp. the far-left lesbians), etc. They are in a class of “weird and dangerous” all by themselves, and some will be severely injured or killed when they start their attacks on the “wrong people” (i.e. those who are prepared to fight back and will do so in spades, 22 cal. 30 Cal, 32 & 38 Cal, 40M, 45 Cal, 356, .556 etc. And if a gun isn’t around or necessary, a baseball bat will do just fine. You aim for the wrists, kneecaps, ankles and behind the ankles, where the shoulder meets the neck, and the balls. No need to kill, just disable. Lesson learned.
5. The Media wants violence. It sell papers, online stories, ads, wins awards, and promotes their own leftwing ideology (without having to leave the well-protected TV/Cable network facilities. This is the cowardly way to promote a revolution, done mainly by overpaid white liberals and black extremists, plus some genderbender weirdos.

The Left is one big “Psychopathic, Ego-Maniacal Mass” of violence and nice words and “pretty please” aren’t going to stop them. The police can’t or won’t in most major Democrat run cities. In the smaller cities and towns, the sheriff departments will do just fine, aided by armed, concerned citizens who could be deputized or form a posse comitatus in certain circumstances.

Otherwise well armed, trained, and combat experienced neighborhood, club/lodge groups, etc. will protect their neighborhoods from intruders, while some will take the fight right into the cities and show no mercy.

The time for psychoanalyzing these dangerous people and groups is long over. What we need now are well organized backup groups for the police/sheriffs, etc. who are well armed, trained, and experienced in combat, and WILLING to defend their family, friends, neighbors, and areas, if not their stores where feasible. You know damned well the police are not going to defend your business.

Just look at Ferguson, Philly, Baltimore, Portland, DC, Seattle, etc. Lessons Learned. Be prepared to do it yourself.

MY neighborhood has enough veterans from Vietnam through Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. to beat back any mob because they have the training, combat experience, discipline and arms.

Others won’t be so lucky. Hopefully their are the rich liberal white areas who supported Antifa, Black Lives Matter, etc.

Only time will tell, but as they say in the Boy Scouts “Be Prepared”, and in the Coast Guard, “Semper Paratus” (Always Prepared).

Wow.

What a great and level headed and well written post.

Mine are just full of curses :)

It should be on the sidebar for people to read.

And every word of it is right.

As for our neighborhoods, they KNOW not to venture into yours, nor will they venture into my predominantly Italian ancestry neighborhood because many here would welcome it.

Any normal Italians already moved to NJ and the maniacs stayed behind on the Island of Staten :)

That’s why when that fat guy died while police were subduing him some years back, they protested in metrosexual Manhattan.

Many in the neighborhood own business and have guns or just don’t give a #### and have guns, cuomo and de blasio be damned.

The 2nd amendment is what counts. Not some a@@holes in office here.

You are RIGHT that the time is WAY past for platitudes and acquiescing to their innate nature of terror.

BTW, what are “SDS supporters”?

Thanks.

Thanks for the comments.

SDS supporters (Students for A Democratic Society) are liberal, druggies and some anarchist supporter of the Marxist captured original left-liberal student organization SLID (Student League for Industrial Democracy)

Tom Hayden and a couple of others turned it into SDS (Port Huron, Mich, Statement) 1963 and then kept moving further to the Marxist left with the help of the old Communist Party USA, a few far-left Social Democrats, and the New Left (neo-anarchists who eventually submitted to Hayden’s Marxist approach to attacking society).

I saw some of this first hand as an undercover operative, while my late friend, Larry Grathwohl, was a deep FBI operative in the worst of the SDS faction that became known as the Weathermen who were trained in terrorism by the Cuban DGI, the KGB controlled Secret Police, possibly by some PLO operatives, IRA, and Japanese Red Army operatives.

Most SDS members (I was one myself, for at least a day or two), eventually drifted away from the psychopathic violence that Bill Ayers and his then girlfriend, Bernadine Dohrn, promoted as the operative method of their faction.

Most of the leadership of the Weather Underground never served any serious jail time, though some second tier psychos did). Now some are professors, writers, and friends of Obama.

Wow. Wow. And Wow.

I knew nothing of any of this.

I’m 50 and remember hearing about the Weather Underground and some bombings, but I didn’t know all of this.

And how far back it reached.

And how other govts were involved.

It seems like an Exhausting, NEVER ENDING battle between good and evil in this country.

I guess it always has been.

You’ve had some experiences, my friend.

Glad that you can share your knowledge with us.

Left-wing violence in the late 1960s and early 1970s was similar to what we are now seeing. So was the demonization of Richard Nixon, who was probably more of a centrist than a right-winger.

A common occurrence near or on university campuses in the U.S., Canada and other western countries was burning police cars, blowing up computer labs (the computers of that time were big suckers housed in large rooms, you’ve probably seen them in space travel movies of that era).

The leftist violence cycle tried to renew itself in the Reagan presidency but students at that time were less open to left-wing agitation, without Vietnam as a focus. Also the Soviet Union appeared to be a tired and doomed entity bogged down in Afghanistan, so it had less appeal to students than it might have had around 1970.

The one thing that was missing from the equation back then was the internet, so people were more dependent on mainstream media which slanted news coverage in much the same way they do today. And there was no hysteria about global warming, even Hurricane Camille in 1969 did not get blamed on human activity, and it was a doozy.

Well, you be a New Yorker, so you lived in a bubble of NYC centric thought and ideas. Outside ideas are not accepted.

Reminds me of my younger liberal lawyer (redundant) brother that claimed to have never heard of the descriptive PIAPS until a few months ago when I explained it to him.

Staten Island is very conservative and so was pop.

And one tends to speak of current evens when talking politics.

I know my lack of knowledge in this area had a lot more to do with the fact that I was maybe 7 when the Weather Underground was at its peak.

I wasn’t as interested in politics and the news back then and all I wanted to talk about was what new army tank model set I was getting next :)

Thanks for sharing that. It’s like a combination of this, plus what it must have been like right before the Civil War, plus a spiritual element of evil in the country right now.
