Have any of you tried watching the “Magnum PI” regurgitation? I saw part of a promo for it the other day...looks worse that i initially imagined.
My mom did and liked it a lot. I don’t know if she’s kept up with watching it cause she’s so busy.
My dad did and initially liked it and then meh and hasn’t watched again. I think he was just nostalgic about the original.
I started watching the first episode but something online distracted me and I wasn’t paying attention to the last 20/30 minutes or so., no idea how it ended. What I recall was neither offensive nor compelling (Higgins is a hotish chick that can beat guys up and has low-level sexual tension with Magnum, weird) I mean. I read somewhere there are no references to the character being Hispanic except for one joke about suntans or something.
I think, and mind you I only watched at most 2/3s of an ep and am unlikely to try to watch it again (but haven’t ruled it out), and I’ve seen little enough of the original, that perhaps the negative reaction was overblown, merely offense at reboots in general, and in the race change in particular though it appears cosmetic and meaningless.
From what I gleaned it’s nothing more or less than typical CBS “Action” pablum for older people. Clearly set in the same alternate universe as Hawaii 5-0 (Mom loves it, it’s dreck) where Hawaii is such a hotbead of violent crime and terrorism that it puts Caracas and even Cabot Cove to shame.

Nope. When I saw an ad for NuMagnum jumping from his sports car onto the front of a truck crashing into it at 65mph, I said, “Nope.” Normal human beings would get killed. If they had told Selleck in the ‘80s his character would do that, he would’ve quit the show.
