And rbg has narcolepsy?
Prayers up. Didnt her husband also developed dementia?
As a nurse, Ive seen so many patients with dementia who were judges, doctors, lawyers, and professors in their former lives before succumbing
to this disease. Doesnt skip anyone.
So sad. My Grandmother had this horrible disease.
Appointed to the US Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan who preceded her into those depths and who also took himself off of the public stage for the same reason. Dementia, no matter how it happens is a horrible condition for the victim and the family!
Horrible, and sad.
I may have disagreed with Sandra Day O’Connor on a variety of subjects, but in her current state, I can only respond with the most raw and sincere sympathy.
Just awful and sad, to have your life removed from your conscious mind, memory by memory.
She removed herself from the judicial stage when she needed to, and I give her credit for that. May God grant her and her family the strength to withstand this trial with grace.
NOW she tells us !!!!!
It has to be scary, having enough self awareness to know for a fact that your abilities are receeding.
She remains fully active for a very long time after ‘retirement’. The Judge was used to all the hard work and fully applying her intellect. She seemed to have really enjoyed her job, not just the status of ‘being the first’.
Legalese is NOT an easy language for most people.
**I think JFK Jr. RIP, had to take the Bar Exam at least five times before he (was allowed to) pass.
What a beautiful statement. Short, dignified, uplifting, heartfelt.
Thank you for your service, Justice O’Connor.
Conversation at My House
Me: Mom, Sandra Day OConnor just announced thst she has Alzheimers too. See, it doesnt discriminate, look at all the smart people who have gotten it?
Mom: Sandra Day OConnor has Alzheimers? Thats terrible! How could this happen??
Me: It just does. Its not fair. Youve had Alzheimers for 8 years now.
Mom: I have Alzheimers??
And thus begins my next Groundhog Day. ;)
Prayers up for the family OConnor.
I’ll say a prayer for her.
My mom had dementia.
One can only wonder about RBG.
“’ The diagnosis had been made “some time ago.”’
Just can’t remember when exactly
Sandra Day was born in El Paso, Texas, the daughter of Harry Alfred Day, a rancher, and Ada Mae (Wilkey). She grew up on a 198,000-acre cattle ranch near Duncan, Arizona. The ranch was nine miles from the nearest paved road. The family home did not have running water nor electricity until Sandra was seven years old. She hunted from a young age, using a .22-caliber rifle to shoot jackrabbits for food. She began driving as soon as she could see over the dashboard and had to learn to change flat automobile tires herself...

For all her faults, I still feel for her.
Very sad news. Im glad shes letting us know while she can control how the news is broken. Dementia is something I fear acquiring the most. I wouldnt wish it on anybody.
I’m grateful for many things in my life. My son, who is a joy to me every day at 32 years old. And my sister, who moved my dad, once he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s to her home, about 2800 miles away but only 5 miles from me.
Having dad there was quite a thing for my sister and her family, much too much to get into here. We were able to get dad into a privately operated home funded by the VA. And this was the best place on earth for him.
I’m grateful for the fact that my dad always recognized his daughters. And also for the fact he got a second wind before the end...he saw that DJT was going to run and he was tickled.
I hope that Justice O’Conner’s family gets these moments before she is gone.
