There was an anecdote about a German soldier, served soup boiling hot out of a company kettle, who misplaced his spoon. By the time he found it 30 sec later, the soup in his bowl was lukewarm; by the end of 2 or 3 minutes, what was left in the bowl was frozen solid.

Why aren’t these people trying to get to Costa Rica? Life is good there and they speak Spanish. Much easier. Why not Panama? Why not Colombia? Ecuador?

The vast majority of them are very good people. However, they’ve been sold an erroneous bill of goods, i.e. propaganda, which has brought about this situation.
Nonetheless, without proper vetting, who can tell the good from the bad? (Some are dangerous criminals)
They must be patient and go through the proper channels to be allowed to reside here.
IMPO, We should get out of Afghanistan, and do operations in Central America. Jail their leaders and gang members and make those beautiful tropical countries livable.

IOW, fix the problem at its source, not just treat the symptoms.
