States With Legal Pot See Increase In Car Accidents, Studies Say
CBS Denver ^ | October 18, 2018

CNN) – The National Transportation Safety Board said Tuesday that the probable cause of a crash that killed 12 people on a church bus near Concan, Texas, in March 2017 was that the 20-year-old man whose truck hit the bus was under the influence of marijuana and a sedative.

In its report, the board says that there has been an increase in the number of drug-impaired drivers across the country and that something must be done about it.

That call to action seems to match up with a report released Thursday from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Highway Loss Data Institute.

And they still don’t have a test to determine how stoned you are. This is all about tax dollars. It’s unconscionable to legalize that drug and not have a test to know how high a person is under the influence.

Driving under the influence is illegal.

Give these people stiff sentences no different than booze or driving after taking some medication.

Beyond that, screaming that “OMG this needs to be kept illegal because DUIs”, while you keep booze legal is still keeping you in a position where you are trying to keep two different positions for two things that are used almost the same way.

“More Damaging to Teen Brains Than Alcohol”

So why is a teen smoking weed or drinking booze again?

My problem is that I have developed a craving for snack chips even though I don’t smoke up. LOL

Not great for the waistline. :-)

“...those who drive with booze AND cannabis?”

I believe that is a particularly bad combination. Most serious tokers I’ve known would make sure they toked before they drank and said it made them less prone to getting too messed up. I have no idea if that’s true, but a lot of people said it.

I’m not surprised. People’s brains aren’t fully developed until they’re in their mid-twenties. And there are plenty of stories about people who are prone to schizophrenia smoke pot and then actually go full hog schizophrenic. I did research on the topic there was a serial killer in California with that problem.

My daughter moved to Denver - and I was out there for a visit - a few months before it was legalized. It was a nice city.....I’ve been back for a visit twice since, each time it’s less nice.. they will be sorry. In 2 or 3 years, it will be just one more liberal shithole

It might work better in Canada because while they are OK with marijuana, they are less likely to take the wheel because "that's illegal". My wife is Canadian, and by and large they are reflexively scrupulous about following laws. Drivers in Canafda (in my experience, which is limited) are less likely to be jerks or incompetant. The daytime running lights drive me crazy, though. I am always looking for the funeral.

Weed Feed: Marijuana More Damaging to Teen Brains Than Alcohol, New Study Finds

I've been pointing this out for a long time on this forum, and received a lot of flak from the pro-marijuana lobby here.

The effects of alcohol are "generic" and the deleterious effects take years to reach the point where they become noticeable. Components of marijuana, on the other hand, attack very specific cell types in the brain, causing immediate and most likely irreversible brain damage even after light use. The damage is especially pernicious because marijuana's harmful effects are the most pronounced in developing brains. And brains develop until about age 25--which is years after legal adulthood is reached.

In San Francisco, I often see (and smell) drivers toking while behind the wheel. I’m not talking about folks getting stoned then driving but rather getting stoned as they drive.

A few days ago, I spoke in a chat room with a young Canadian man who is certain that his country is going to deteriorate fast with the legalization of marijuana that was about to take place (by now, it has taken place). He is very worried about road safety. He has a lot of reason to worry, since he has a little 4 year old son and another on the way.

There are reasons marijuana was made illegal, and I am afraid that we are just beginning to learn why. The efforts of the marijuana lobby over the last few decades have quite successfully removed the bad effects of marijuana from our collective knowledge. So we have to learn again, by experience.

That makes sad. Lived in Denver for ten years.

I swear, liberals destroy everything they touch. Plus the influx of Californians probably doesn’t help.
