The San Antonio City Council approved a $450 million redevelopment plan for the Alamo, marking a new chapter for the nearly 300-year-old site. The council voted for the proposal on Thursday, signing off on disputed changes, including moving the 1930s Cenotaph memorial, the San Antonio Express-News reported. The vote comes after months of debate by city officials and residents over elements of the redevelopment plan, such as closing streets to vehicle traffic, moving the Cenotaph, and using fences or barriers to control public access. The council approved a 50-year lease that gives the Texas General Land Office management and control of the plaza. Other changes include building a museum.

Great-great grandpa fought during the Seize of Bexar and later was one of the scouts who captured Santa Ana at San Jacinto.
Bigger target for Ozzy?
From what I hear, he lost a few IQ points that night.
Distant ancestor was the guy who painted Houston and Santa Anna under tree after San Jacinto. Anybody following this thread should watch Sam Elliott’s Gone To Texas. Reasonably historically accurate.
allegedly that almost happened many decades ago
During my two tours in Germany with the 3d Armored Division I visited and toured a couple of the forts of the Maginot Line. And I remember that the French government put several of the smaller outlying forts up for sale to the public.

Is there a reason why the Alamo has never been made a National Historic Site, under the Department of the Interior?
I had tickets for that concert !
A lot also happened on the road people drive over. At some point, the mission walls were breached and a road to the city ran right through the courtyard. City growth finally enveloped the mission. People assume the famous "shrine" facade is facing outwards, when actually it faced inward to the courtyard.
So, you can drive your Buick over ground where brave men died. I'm for closing off the road, but the rest of the plan is wrong, and they should leave the cenotaph alone.
Road trip down from 2AD Ft Hood. Car load of Army buddies and Ozzy is in jail for whizzing on the AlAmo! Totally FUBAR !
Because it went down before Texas was a nation and not even close to being in the USA.
The San Antonio River Walk is right across the street and there is a mall
Thanks for the reply. Always wanted to visit The Alamo, but never got to Texas. Too old now to go.
I suspect that the globalists want just one more sign of American/Texican independence must get the old heave-ho.
George Pee is gonna make his mark.
People are legitimately concerned that moving the Cenotaph will damage it. Moving it away from where people died is disrespectful.
‘...leave the cenotaph alone.”
As well as the line in the sand (legend or not).
No. The Daughters of the Texas Revolution used to run it. Then some bozos came along saying they weren’t running it correctly and took it away from them. They had their files and what not stolen and had to fight to get them back. It was then placed under the TX Land Comm office which is now Pee Bush. He wants to turn it into a monument for his Mexican heritage.
Cross eyed Pee didn’t know where his office was the first year he was cashing his paychecks because he was hanging around daddy’s POTUS campaign. He got elected on name recognition only. People now hate him but bet he keeps the office because who else are the GOP going to vote for? This house is voting straight ticket GOP with the exception of going Independent instead of P. The D candidate probably has a better chance but just can’t vote D.
Our great great grandpa Bostick is the old dude with the beard and black hat over to the left side of the painting. Thing is, he wasn’t old at the time of the battle but was painted as he was when he posed for the painting so many years later. At the time, he was just 16 with a typical teenage attitude. His cousins were there and being older than him said he’d have to have the prisoner ride with him. He wasn’t playing that game and said he’d just shoot the guy on the spot rather than share his horse. If he had, the world would never know what happened to Santa Ana. I think Sylvester, the one with the red kerchief, shared his horse.
Karnes and Townsend were the cousins. Karnes (Karnes City, TX) was a relative of Patrick Swayze on his mother’s side.
